Funny you should say that Richard! I hiked to Watchet yesterday Along the King Charles III Coast Path... It's very hilly between Blue Anchor and Watchet and quite gnarly. After a mooch around Watchet I caught the train back to Blue Anchor... Traction courtesy of a Class 33 'Crompton'

I spoke to the driver. It was his first day as a passed driver and his very first turn! He drove brilliantly. He wasn't due to drive today as the train I was on should have been hauled by a Class 15 'Teddybear'. They could find no passed Teddybear driver so pressed the Crompton and its new driver into service!

I even got to have a look in the Crompton's cab

And quite rightly too. It looks very unsightly... Allegedly it's the thing to do these days - it's being green...

When one sees the amount of rampant vegetation around our railways it's no surprise lineside fires have been a problem this summer...

A semaphore signal in the early dawn...

Note that it's lit... Behind the spectacle is a LED lamp. Similar in style to the original paraffin lamp that would have lit this signal...

My red and white signal at our signal box shed needs a bit of repainting! Did a bit of a duff job originally with a tube of artists oil paint some years ago now. Took ages to "dry" and collected its share of insects while it was drying! Yorkshire Trading have little tins of "Pillar Box Red" paint at a dirt cheap £1.99 which should do the job.

Here's another on the signal theme... The Up Distant on the approach to Blue Anchor station at dawn... The signal is lit and it can just be seen although the colour is about the same as the sky, just a bit brighter!
