ElectricHandBrake Caliper replaced but still gets hot

Unread post by ItIsMe1 »

My daughter's 308SW || 2015 has a Bosch 4-wire electric handbrake.
She came home from work with a very hot rear right hand wheel and brake.
It was obvious that the caliper had seized though the pads had little ware. I put the ELB off by using the handbrake switch and pressing the brake pedal. I replaced the caliper with a new Bosch one and used new pins but in use it still squeals and gets hot. I had rotated the piston to leave some free play. I don't yet have a service electronic box and dont know if one is necessary. Any advice welcomed

Have you checked that the service brake is not dragging?

Yes. It is fine when disk is moved by hand. Is a diagnostic tool needed to reactivate the parking brake?

Make sure it's off, then unplug it and take it for a drive. If still hot you have a hydraulic problem somewhere, collapsed hose or ABS block problem?

Surely a diagnostic machine will be needed to reset the caliper as one should be used to just change pads.

Hi Richard Not sure how that will work as if it is off the ELB releases and the wheel can be turned by hand so no problem, but if I go for a drive normal braking will pull the pads into contact

Thanks Paul-R but the pads were not worn and were not replaced so no reset would be needed? After fitting the caliper I put the ELB on and then off and the wheel was free to turn. I have never had an electric handbrake before and have only found one diagnostic machine (Launch) that may work with peugeot/Citroen

I know that they can be used to release the handbrake but aren't needed to do so. I thought you adjusted the piston position by rotating it.

Yes but the point is that if you need to use a diagnostic machine for a pad change then it's probable you'd need it for anything to do with the handbrake.

One thing they tell you that you absolutely must NOT do is rotate the pistons.
