Xantia alarm woes

Unread post by someplace-else »

Can anyone advise on the following.
I have recently bought a 96 1.9 td Xantia estate with 126k on the clock. Today it has developed a problem with the remote locking. On pressing the button on the fob in order to lock the car, nothing happens. The small red light on the fob illuminates, but there is no response from the locks, even when I try to activate from within the car. I have tried both fobs supplied, and changed the batteries within. The locks all work on the key, but I cant then set the alarm as it wont deactivate from the fob. Apart from the anticipated probs.. radiator needed changing... a bit lumpy on start up... even after managing to change ALL the glow plugs.. the car is an excellent family bus.
In answer to the question over glow plugs.... Champion were the only ones my local stockist could supply....?!

Believe this or not, every so often my fob also has no affect on the remote locking, the first time it did it I was just about to take the fob to bits when I noticed a light build up of dust on the infrared led, I blew this off and stone me the toad worked again, this has happened quite a few times since and each time it works when the dust is blown off, huh, Citroens, who'd have'em.
Be nice if thats all it was with your's, but don't bank on it.
What specific make/model of glow plugs have you fitted.

I tried some glowplugs from Hal****s (might have been Champion), they were cheap but they lasted about 6 months. I recommend the Beru ones - they work, part no’s & IIRC fitting instructions on website somewhere..http://www.beru.com/
