Indeed Paul, I gave it its initial run for 6 miles to ensure all is good, which it is. Further bedding in tomorrow as it will get a 60 mile round trip to meet Jim for lunch. I use lanes for all bar 3 miles of B road so they should be properly sorted by the time I get home.
As for the speed of the job it truly is amazing how the power tools make all the difference, big rattle gun for wheel nuts and jacking, power ratchet for bolts, drill with wire brushes and cordless vac for cleaning and last but not least the bench grinder for deburring any rough edges on the pad backplates. Only two of the eight needed thst where the tips were a tad sharp!

While awaiting the new bath to be delivered I decided it was time to start preparing the garage for its new shelves which are due tomorrow. Basically I am replacing the original 4mm MDF shelves with 12mm hardwood ply in an attempt to stop them sagging. This is the starting point:

Of course inevitably it is also the right time to rationalise the contents to make more space available so I started with the brown Gladstone bag on the bottom shelf of the right side rack. Its contents are a classic example of 'it might come in handy' stuff but I am going to be ruthless and scrap anything I don't need, but in some cases, like this one, I shall pop a picture on here for anyone who may be interested, at their own transport/postage costs, in giving the contents a new home before I take them to the recycling depot on Friday.

So if you do want anything PM me or post on here and we'll sort it out. I do not want any payment (other than postage etc) for any items I am prepared to recycle.

If you have a vehicle museum near you they might take in old tools. I have given a few to the Lincoln Vintage Vehicle Society which has a collection of mainly old buses plus some cars and motor bikes as well as some old push bikes. Things they do not use they sell on. A couple of weeks ago I gave them some Gunsons tools no longer of use on newer cars and some I will never use again - including 2 timing lights, an exhaust gas tester, multi meter with rpm and also a click adjust tappet adjuster, clutch alignment tool, valve spring compressor (made in Sheffield as well so a good one). Not long ago I gave an engine crane last used over 20 years ago to somebody who may have a use but I could not guarantee the piston so could not charge.

The recycling depot we have has a reuse shop, so that is where they will end up if not claimed. The AF spanners are now spoken for!
Next to come out of the shelf was this impact driver, it has two batteries both working as is the charger, but I have three others now and don't need this one!!

Any local 'Men's Sheds' are always keen to receive tools. They're a charity that does some good work to aid the mental health of lonely old men.

I have built my collection since buying a cordless mower and being impressed with the build quality. I have bought the vast majority from auction for between 10 and 20 pounds each.with just the impact driver and jigsaw being more. The picture doesn't include the garden items mower, fence sprayer seed spreader and pressure sprayer or the 8 batteries and 2 chargers I have accumulated!! No complaints from me and they make life so much easier.
