CLUNKING NOISE
For a long time I have had a clunking noise when letting the clutch pedal up on my 1995 Citroen ZX 1.4i in all gears whether moving or stationery. Yesterday on checking the front brakes, I noticed that when moving the right wheel from 3 oclock to 9 oclock position there was a clunking noise which seemed to becoming from the hub end of the driveshaft. Any ideas what it could and how to fix it.
I would think that this might be a "wheel bearing"problem. Remove the brake caliper from the disk, take care not to leave it hanging loosely,in case you damage the flexible hose pipe, and check again, looking for movement in your wheel at the 3'0clock, and 12,0 clock position in order to eliminate the brakes.if you still have a problem it is definately a wheel bearing. Not a major job to replace if you have a Haynes Manual. Also (I should say FIRST CHECK that a stone,or some such foreign body, has not lodged between the Brake Caliper & the Disk.
