I can't really advise you on this, but have put the correct memory deletion / initialisation procedure up for you. If the roof blind won't retract further than the initial opening, then there may be an issue with the roller mechanism itself.

If it is also making these rattling noises the roof has parts that are worn out. As a result you will not be able to complete the initialisation of the roof. Most likely you will have to replace the roof cables and the worm wheel. There may be more damaged parts though.

Pluriel roof initialisation should always be done with the engine running

Hello all , new member from the UK.
Probably the worst place in the world with few exceptions to own a C3 Pluriel !?

So… my mother has a 2014 facelifted full CAN Pluriel . The roof has decided it doesn’t want to go back up. I’ve had a read on here and found tons of possibilities to try.
The difficult bit is that I’m a 5 hour drive away from the car and have asked a friend to take a look which he is kindly going to do.
The car has had issues with the roof before. A garage ‘fixed’ it once but advised mum to leave the roof up forever. Frustratingly mum ignored that advice , used the roof and now it’s stuck permanently down .
Is it possible to bypass all the sensors and get the roof back up ? ( assuming it’s a sensor problem ) .
Any suggestions gladly received.

Yes, with the use of a big screwdrivee you can manually roll the roof back. You will need to remove the plastic cover of the rear window on the inside. To be able to remove this the back window needs to be open which is a pain as most of the time when the roof isn’t playing ball the window won’t open too.
If this is the case you’ll need to remove te screws you can get to and force the plastic open a bit so you can put your hand in and manually release the 2 locks on the left and the right after which you can get to the 2 remaining screws. If the cover is off you’ll see the motor. Close the back window again and use the big flat screwdriver on the shaft of the motor and close the roof this way.

Thanks for this , it’s the perfect solution if it closes the roof again. Would you say it’s quite an easy thing to do ? It certainly sounds straight forward enough.

My question is:
- What are the most common failures of the roof assembly and in what combination do they manifest themselves with failures and dependence of other parts of the vehicle (as I read that it has an effect on opening the trunk...)?

Be very weary of buying one of these, especially one with known roof issues. Its common for the plastic roof interslides to break, usually the roof tries to come off its rails, the other problem is many of the roof spare parts are no longer available from Citroen

- Do I need to avoid the offered vehicles with roof leaks? (easily recognized by the dirty spots on the driver's and passenger's seats)

What I described is indeed pretty straight forward providing no hardware (like the hinges or the interslides) are broken.

Main problem areas....
Note: not in any order.
My bet is cables/cog or roof sliders.....there was someone who 3d printed sliders/cables & cog NFP for a long time.

Failed switch/control knob unit
Plastic Roof slides (roof goes out of "square" then jams esp in the last 1/3 when closing)
1st Roof slide end clip/locking tab (breaking off)
Cables being oiled/greased (they are designed to be "dry" to prevent dirt sticking)
Dirt build up from the cables in the motor/drive cog. (Can also crack the plastic motor mounts)
Worn cables
Worn Drive cog
Rust on the retaining plate (or build up of dirt) covering the motor/cog

I "solved" (you never really do ) roof closure by removing the cables and installing tension clamps to hold the roof closed turning into a push/pull roof.

Apologies for the amendment here but the car is actually a C1 airscape 2014. It belongs to my elderly mum who lives 5 hours away and I’m trying to sort this remotely .
Anyway, it’s now in a container for 1 month whilst I try to find a way to close the roof again.
I will be visiting her in a few weeks and will have a go myself. So once again, apologies for those who took time to answer in relation the wrong model, but where do I start ?
My uncle has looked at it in person. His feedback was that one side moves in the rail , the other doesn’t ?
Any tips and advice much appreciated . My mum loves this car and just spent a chunk of money getting rid of scuffs and rust patches, she would be so gutted to have to scrap it .
Fingers crossed , in one month I can get the thing closed and water tight again ??

Well that changes everything.
Completely different cars but i don’t personally have any experience with the roofs on these.
With it being a Toyota based vehicle though id say availability of replacement dealer parts is more likely.
