Ds3 1.6 bluehdi fuel gauge issue

Hello guys,

I have a 1.6 BlueHDi and I’ve had a very strange issue. I’m sure someone has experienced something similar before.

About a week ago, I filled the fuel tank completely and have driven around 220 miles since then. Everything seemed normal, and the fuel gauge was reading correctly. It had dropped by around 1/4 of a tank (about 3/4 bars down from full).

However, when I started the car yesterday, the fuel gauge suddenly showed that the tank was **full again**. I’ve driven a good few more miles since then, and it has only dropped by one bar. It’s still showing the tank as almost full which obviously doesn’t seem correct.

Could this be a problem with the fuel sender unit or is there something else that could cause this?

Has anyone experienced the same issue or have any advice?

That behaviour suggests a partial short circuit in the sender - guage circuit. Check the wiring at the tank for moisture or corrosion and then at the guage end. It is possible to test the sender with a multi meter but you'll need the correct values which I can't help with. Good luck

I have no diagrams of your car but the sender unit is usually on the top of the tank, accessed from the boot floor or sometimes under the back seat. Presumably your guage is part of the dash cluster so a visual inspection of the plugs is all you can really do without taking the dash apart. Sorry I can't be more help. good luck
