2012 Peugeot 308 1.6 e-HDi – intermittent kangarooing/stalling
I'm chasing an intermittent kangarooing/shuddering issue, mainly when the engine is warm and under load.
Symptoms:
Rev counter fluctuates by around 100–200 rpm when it happens.
Occasionally feels like the engine is going to stall.
Has now cut out when setting off and subsequently cranked without starting until the ignition was cycled off/on.
No consistent warning light.
Turbo doesn't seem to give its normal "kick" and the car feels down on power.
Work already done:
Replaced MAF – problem remains.
Replaced fuel filter – problem remains.
Replaced one injector previously.
Found and repaired a loose wire near the injectors (not actually connected to an injector).
EGR actuator test in DiagBox reports no fault.
Fuel pressure actual vs reference looks very close at idle and generally under load.
Turbo pressure actual vs reference also appears similar in DiagBox.
Fault codes seen:
P2416 – injector bank 1 short circuit (intermittent)
P2291 – injector rail pressure rise too slow during starting
P050B – starting time too long
P0113 / IAT reading occasionally showing -40°C
P1A9C – energy accumulator permanent fault
I'm currently investigating the EGR and VGT turbo operation. The EGR is difficult to remove because one of the T30 mounting bolts has rounded off.
I've obtained a donor injector and have its 6-character calibration code, so I can test it if required.
The replacement injector was changed at a garage so I'm not sure if it has been calibrated with the code.
Question: Given the symptoms and fault history, would you suspect EGR/VGT turbo control, injector/wiring, crankshaft sensor, or something else?

Re: 2012 Peugeot 308 1.6 e-HDi – intermittent kangarooing/stalling
Trying to see the wood through the trees, kangarooing is usually fuel related rather than electrical. Electrical issues can of course cause fuelling problems which in turn cause the kangarooing. So I'd start with a thorough clean up of all the connectors from fuseboxes through to the injectors checking for bent contacts and general corrosion. Then clear the fault codes and run a global scan and see which fault codes remain. That may cut down the possibilities and narrow your search. Good luck
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

Thanks. The fault codes were cleared originally and no new ones exist after clearing, despite the car still kangarooingmickthemaverick wrote: 17 Aug 2026, 14:34 Trying to see the wood through the trees, kangarooing is usually fuel related rather than electrical. Have you checked if there is dirt/water in the fuel tank, are you running on low fuel levels ?
You could replace the high pressure fuel pump pressure regulator, this might be giving the symptoms. PF Jones sell them https://www.pfjones.co.uk/fuel-pumps-an ... alves.html
Something to read and the cause was the fuel pressure regulator https://www.vauxhallownersnetwork.co.uk ... um=organic

Worth checking the wiring and plug to the crank sensor for corrosion (common fault later cars they changed the connector material) as this can cause similar issues that often do not trigger fault codes as the crank signal is lost and ECU just thinks engine has been stopped.

Thanks. I've actually got a new crank sensor which I had planned to fit but one of the torx bolts on the EGR valve was rounded off so spent several hours trying to get that out. I will check the wiring when replacing the sensorwindy1603 wrote: 17 Aug 2026, 16:01 Worth checking the wiring and plug to the crank sensor for corrosion (common fault later cars they changed the connector material) as this can cause similar issues that often do not trigger fault codes as the crank signal is lost and ECU just thinks engine has been stopped.

Re: 2012 Peugeot 308 1.6 e-HDi – intermittent kangarooing/stalling
So after changing the fuel filter and trying to (but failing to) the EGR valve I have the following errors
C1391 – non-confirmation of engine torque
U1208 – no communication/data from the engine ECU
I have obviously disturbed something, any ideas the best place to check?
