That all sounds great Ryan, should easily last a few years. Suspension will probably be the next major works!
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

Well I've changed the driver's side spring and link bar, got the left front spring and link bar ready to go when it fails.

Re: C8 🆚 Heatwave, Heatwave winning/won...
Have you proved that blanking the egr isn't worth it, taking it to the legendary place where it is ... i read this with the hairs on the back of my kneck staning up , i mean this garage is amazing.. Good amd the best of luck with said car But ... if all goes belly , sell it to the 18 ur old lol..... no jokes a side if there was another car you wanted , what would it be ?

Re: C8 🆚 Heatwave, Heatwave winning/won...
I still can't get my head around why people blank off the egr unless you want to fool the emissions on a MOT test, if doing it to a '07 or newer you have to remap or the EML will be on constantly and instant failure. I blanked mine because a turbo pipe failed and the fumes were getting into car as the turbo is on the back of the engine and that half of the engine is pushed back under the dashboard. I did this so I could drive from home to the garage without the fumes. Chevronics removed the blank plate and reinstalled the gasket for me. To me EGR is what turbos were meant to do but it turned out to boost performance as well, happy mistake, so blanking it off makes no sense to me, who chooses higher fuel consumption?? As for Chevronics, Aiden did an amazing job on her mechanically, taking time and care (probably swore to hell, she's not easy to work on) rather than rushing in crash bang wallop. As for bodywork, I didn't have any done but I did admire the Triumph Herald nut and bolt restoration in the 'showroom', what an amazing job they've done. The car looked brand new!.... My car is 20 years old so parts are a nightmare to find. Looking back through old paperwork I bought the car 13 years ago, the engine was a re-con with 37k and the body at 87k. She's now at body 119k so engine is at 69k. Body is solid, no rust issues so hopefully she'll last another 13 years. As for a different car, that's difficult, I'm all legs and short arms!!! The C5X that I hired was a fairly nice car but the steering wheel didn't pull out far enough for my arms, I need a big car/van to be able to be comfortable, and getting in and out of a lower down car means I bang my head getting in and have to grab my knees to get out!!! Plus, if she survives that long, when the kids move out I'm going to do a camper conversion on it and travel, they do ready made kits for it, Dad's Taxi is unavailable.........

Re: C8 🆚 Heatwave, Heatwave winning/won...
I'll give my understanding on the two:
Turbocharging - diesel's need a good amount of air, original turbo charging intended to assist scavenging, push the air in a touch rather than just sucking it in (as per nasp. Diesel) better filling of the cylinders, better efficiency.
Because a diesel engine doesn't have fuel in the cylinder until (just before) the power stroke, there's no chance of pre-ignition like on a petrol so you can ram as much air in as you like. So long as that air isn't very hot and you can mix the fuel with it effectively when ready, there's lots and lots of power available without much downside.
If you can't mix the fuel well it won't all burn = black smoke.
EGR is for a different reason. As diesels squirt in only the fuel needed (i.e. more fuel = more power and if that's more than needed then engine goes faster. Balance between fuel squirted in and power demanded governs engine speed. Throttled on fuel (Vs petrol throttled on air).
Given the above, diesels, other than foot to the floor maximum power condition, are almost always running lean. Lean = high temperatures in the cylinder. High temperatures are when nitrogen can combine with oxygen and form NOx. The engine doesn't gain or loose by producing NOx but it's harmful to breath in.
Step in EGR. Essentially it's a small volume of "dumb" gas shoved in to displace some of the oxygen rich air. Allows a bit less fuel to burn with a bit less oxygen at same cylinder pressure. But the bit of dumb gas is now a little useless heat sink and some of the heat energy is now spent warming up this dumb volume.
Having energy wasted doing this cools the cylinder temperatures a bit = less Nox.
This is absolutely not to the benefit of the engine running (it's quite happy running lean and hot thanks very much) but the reduced Nox is the reason we persist with it.
The problem with EGR is the reality of doing it is less perfect than the concept. The tiny volume of dumb gas has soot particles in it, and because the PCV system is designed to satisfy bean counters - the inlet manifold is coated with a thin film of oil (which has no business being there, were the PCV to actually be effective!). These tiny soot particles find a nice sticky surface and some settle. Over time this is what clogs our diesel inlets.

Re: C8 🆚 Heatwave, Heatwave winning/won...
That's a good explanation of EGR Matt
It also helps reduce the combustion temperature a little as there's a direct relationship between combustion temperature and NOx production. Petrol engines, running much cooler combustion temperatures, produce correspondingly much less NOx. The downside of EGR is the amount of soot and carbon introduced into the inlet tract.
SCR (AdBlue) on newer diesels reduce NOx to zero in a very efficient way. A modern diesel with a particulate filter and SCR produce only a bit of CO2 and H2O out of the exhaust. Possibly cleaner air out than went in via the air filter!!!

Re: C8 🆚 Heatwave, Heatwave winning/won...
Thanks for the explanations, it makes some sense. When the turbo was invented it was designed to recycle wasted energy, reduce fuel consumption and force in air to aid combustion, mainly for aircraft and marine vessels. Egr is just another way to save fuel and help the planet. Unless you're driving a race car I don't see the benefits in blanking it off apart from not using a can of egr cleaner every 6 months.

Re: C8 🆚 Heatwave, Heatwave winning/won...
Oh, before I forget, I did have an issue with Chevronics....I had to stop before leaving their premises.....to get my Chevronics stickers!!!! Which they promised me, bloody expensive stickers, I got 2, so that's £1500 each. Next will be a new windscreen, as it's cracked, luckily I have a spare FCF tax disc badge to put on the new windscreen.
