Tom,
I broached this subject a while back on a board over here but from a slightly different angle; have a look at how many models from different brands have had the same or similar name over the years. (ie) Bellingo, Berlino, Balino as one example but then I am told that you get one model of Mitsubishi over there that is the same as one we get here; the Shogun, the reason being that the Australian designation of this model would be unacceptable in Europe as in Spanish, it's name "Pajero" reputedly means 'w@^ker' and given the opinion of most non 4wd drivers out here of their 4WD fellow road users and the way too many of them drive, that could be more a description than a model name if the same applies over there.
If this is correct, I suppose they must reckon we don't get any Spanish speaking people on this side of the globe.

Alan,
I don't know how correct you are about the Spanish and the Shogun but my girl friend's brother-in-law, an Italian living in Cremona, drives a 14 year old Pajero. It makes the trip to southern England twice a year. Perhaps Mitsubishi, or the Spanish, weren't so sensitive in the late eighties...

This to me would say that it possibly could be correct, as having several friends of Italian origin & knowing their wicked sense of humour, he probably does it for a joke
