Changing my view on C4 B7 model

Unread post by Must be Mad »

Well I know probably not news to the wise heads on here, but despite the fact the old girl has fought me in every task, she is running now.

A well used and abused C4 1.6 HDI VTR+ 6 speed think its the 115ps model, covered 107k and rough as a badgers.

Have replaced the front shocks with Munroe units kept oem springs they were fine no breaks only light surface rust that came off to recoat, new front hubs, wheel bearings, ball joints, lower arms new upper strut mounts, ARB drop links. Gave it service oil, air, fuel and cabin filters, fresh oil and replaced the faulty EGR. New front discs, pads, slider pins and rubbers.

Still to swap out the wheels oem ones are mess been hammered off kerbs and bit of a mess on crap tyres and looking at wear still need to sort wheel alignment. Have a set of Pug 206 GTi multispokes, they are half in narrower but don't thin that will be an issue as they will accept the 205 55 r16 tyres no problem.

Jobs still to do fill Eolys tank (and see if the pump works and figure out why to fault codes or warning message, my gut says its been deleted or turned off), get DPF off and clean and maybe bodywork not sure worth it tho I like the s**t look haha, longer term needs cam belt and fr peace of mind probably rear discs and bearings.

Ok to my point, now it drives and stops as is should and the engine is starting to feel much more lively, the car is decent to drive, rides well good comfort levels, all the reviews said it had excessive body roll and had no steering feel and numb, well this one has nice feel to steering weights up and reduces to let you feel grip levels, body roll is actually no worse than focus i had before. now the engine is pulling from low down it feels much more alive. I don't know if the Munroe dampers have altered the feel or just that all the bushes etc are in good nick but it feels decent, got me thinking should i fork out for a set of rear Munroe dampers see what that does?

Definitely life in old girl yet and proof that motor reviews don't have a clue in my opinion.
