Re: C8 🆚 Heatwave, Heatwave winning/won...
I believe that is what they may have to do as parts are non existent for this car. It's a great car but is so pig hungry labour intensive to get to anything. It's only been there two weeks, I'm not bored of walking everywhere.... honest!!

Yes I ask the stupid questions, because normally it is that simple.

Re: C8 🆚 Heatwave, Heatwave winning/won...
Had an update from Chevronics yesterday via WhatsApp. Stage 1 is complete which is turbo pipe replaced and new belts and pulleys. There was an issue with the supplier apparently as they kept sending the wrong crankshaft pulley. But Chevronics were sensible and took their time to ease off the crankshaft pulley bolt rather than risk shearing it off, much appreciated. (Only PSA would design a car that has to have the coolant removed to do a cambelt) The car isn't revving freely but I'm not surprised as I blanked off the egr pipe into the intake manifold to stop the fumes from entering the cab whilst driving it from garage to garage. Hopefully as soon as that's removed it will rev freely. If not, stage 2 will be a new dpf and downpipe, hopefully that's not required. Apart from being short staffed at the moment, not surprising as kids are off school, I've been pleasantly surprised by their professionalism, friendliness and honesty to date.

Devils advocate and all that, but given changing water pump is almost always a good idea at cam belt change time, doesn't sound a big downside to meRp0thejester wrote: 07 Aug 2026, 20:57 Only PSA would design a car that has to have the coolant removed to do a cambelt
Did you / Chevronics get to the bottom of this? I'm surprised if blanked EGR had such detrimental effect on it's running. Plenty of folks blank theirs (yes I know not legal to do so) with no change to running (unless it was previously stuck open)The car isn't revving freely but I'm not surprised as I blanked off the egr pipe into the intake manifold to stop the fumes from entering the cab whilst driving it from garage to garage. Re: C8 🆚 Heatwave, Heatwave winning/won...
No response yet, it only started after I blanked it off. The ECU hasn't been remapped so that's why I think it's the plate. I've been told by the missus that I WILL BE VISITING CHEVRONICS tomorrow to see what's happening. Unfortunately assault of the ear holes isn't a recognised crime by the police, so I'll do as I'm told. I'll take as many photos as possible before being dragged away by the police.

I still have a couple, used a cheque when renewing my driving licence a couple of years ago. They sent it back, didn't charge me for the new one despite it being £17:50 (new photo).

SWMBO (technophobe) still writes out 4 cheques to varying different charities every month. Her reasoning is that if they don't accept cheques they don't get a donation!! Funnily enough none of them have ever refused!!
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

A good policy with bosses and women in your life is to agree with them and then do your own thing. It keeps them happy as well as yourself.

Re: C8 🆚 Heatwave, Heatwave winning/won...
Please read above for stage 1, Well I had a late night visitor on the evening of 09/08/26. It turns out my son's friends car (who we treat as a son) went bang and needs a little guidance in getting a car. He's only 18 and had 4 modern cars that have gone wrong on him. His latest one was a Volvo V40 that lost 2 pistons after being serviced from where he bought it from....not suspicious at all...... I told him I would be going to Chevronics the next day, he wanted to tag along so I WARNED CHEVRONICS instantly on WhatsApp about his arrival. So the next day we arrived, as the Mrs ordered me to. I left my son and his friend in the showroom as I was permitted to enter the work area to meet the 'technician' Aiden whose been working on the car and give him some back info on my car. It was very strange to see my car with no wiper arms or bonnet. Aiden clearly has knowledge on this engine/vehicle as he asked about the swirl valve actuator and why there was a bolt in the vacuum tube. So I explained why, then we discussed a strange noise near alternator, the state the crankshaft pulley was in (it was very bad!). I pointed out where I blanked the egr, he asked why so I explained. I then returned to the showroom where Mr know it all was, 18yrs old 4 modern cars broken, and proceeded to watch him get a lesson on mechanics. Cheryl is NOT just a receptionist, she IS a treasure trove of information! The funniest bit was when he asked how much a head gasket would cost on a 2CV!!! Instant reply was 0, it's air cooled.... But he's now learnt to buy from a reputable dealer with knowledge rather than where he's been buying from. The unblanking of the egr proved unsuccessful so they removed the downpipe and it revved freely. So stage 2 was dpf. I was given a quote and agreed the price, unfortunately their supplier gave them the wrong info and it wasn't the complete unit as they expected. Which is why I prefer them using WhatsApp, it's in writing, no misunderstanding. They thought the CAT was included but it wasn't, so new quote supplied and agreed. Only issue would be the differential pipes from before the CAT and into the DPF. Can't find any, so they were careful, tried penetrating oil and then heat but to no avail. Aiden had to cut around the pipes and then put them in a vice to remove the excess metal. Now that is care!! So I now have her back and wow what a difference in performance, I knew exhaust flow could alter performance but not by that much!!!!!!!! The 2.2 HDI engine is amazing, it revs and pulls like a truck. So she's had timing belt kit, water pump, new coolant, CAT, DPF, repair to PAS pipe, Turbo pipe fixed. I'll post my review on Chevronics in a couple of days after they get back to me, I have a few questions to ask them...........
