Need reinitialization of BSI

Hello all,

I'm having a problem with my 2010 Citroën Jumpy / Dispatch, 2.0 HDi 163 HP with FAP.

I was playing around with the CAN bus just out of curiosity.

By mistake, I sent random CAN frames to the comfort CAN bus. The car started blinking every light it has, and the doors suddenly locked and unlocked several times. I think that by doing this I may have written some invalid configuration to the BSI.

The car still starts and drives. At first I had some fault codes about unknown CAN messages.

However, the tailgate won't unlock anymore, and I'm afraid there may be more functions that are not working correctly without me noticing it yet.

What I already tried:

• With Diagbox, I can unlock the latch using the actuator test, so the latch itself is working. But pressing the tailgate button is not detected. I cannot find any value in the live data that changes when the button is pressed.
• The wiring seems to be OK:
  I measured between the 40V BE connector on the BSI and ground. I get continuity when the tailgate button is pressed.
  At the connector on the tailgate, I have the BSI's +12 V pull-up voltage, but when I pull the signal to ground, the BSI does not detect it.
• I also tried changing some configuration values in the BSI and then changing them back, hoping it would fix the problem, but without any luck.
• Of course, I also tried the BSI reboot procedure described in various places, disconnected the battery for several hours, and even pulled the SH shunt to reset the BSI.

Is there any way to completely reinitialize the BSI or restore its internal configuration?

Any help would be very much appreciated! I'm starting to run out of ideas.

Quick update on this topic:

I finally got the original BSI working again.

What I ended up doing was virginizing the original BSI and then reconfiguring it with DiagBox. Before doing that, I had exported and documented all telecoding settings (as screenshots), so I was able to restore the configuration 1:1 afterwards.

After the reconfiguration, the tailgate started working again.

This strongly suggests that the CAN fuzzing did not physically damage the BSI. My current assumption is that I somehow managed to program something to the eeprom that would not be possible to set via diagbox. That also explains why I could not fix it by changing the settings and reverting them back later.

Now to the interesting part:

I also bought an identical replacement BSI (same hardware generation, BSI04EV, same software ex works), but it originally came from a Citroën C4 and has a newer software version.

I virginized it and got it running, but the configuration could not be transferred cleanly. The available settings are similar but not identical for what I recorded from my original dispatch.
So, the car would start but the windshield wipers were running continuously. Also, the windows won't move.

Unfortunately, I found the "Vehicle Type" parameter when I already reverted it back to the original one. To me it seems as if I should have set that one first instead of messing with all the wiper settings available. Can some advice here?
- Is the Vehicle Type value a PSA platform identifier?
- Does certain value keep the same meaning across different BSI software versions?
- Are there vehicle-specific firmware variants for BSI04EV (Jumpy / Expert / Scudo / C4 etc.), or is the firmware universal and the vehicle behavior defined mainly by telecoding?
- Is there a way to make the newer C4 BSI behave exactly like the original Jumpy BSI, or am I fighting a firmware/platform mismatch? And cannot win.

Any information about Vehicle Type codes, software version differences, or cross-platform BSI04EV conversions would be greatly appreciated.

I can't offer any answers to your questions but I would like to congratulate you on fixing the problem.

One question, though. Did you personally virginise the BSIs? If yes, what equipment did you use?

For suppling the 5V do VCC of the EEPROM i did not cut any traces but added a jumper between 5V and 3.3V (pin 6 and 7 of the header on the bottom of the schematic).
