No brake fluid to front left caliper

Unread post by Duffy3074 »

Hey folks
Apologies for this being my first post but I’m banging my head firmly against a brick wall at the moment

I’ve a 2017 Grand Picasso which has been a bit neglected.
I started doing a brake fluid change today, the old fluid was black!
All went well until I got to the front left caliper and no fluid came out of the bleed screw
Blocked screw I thought! Took it out completely and still nothing coming out (pressure brake bleeder on at 2 bar at this point and I’m pumping the pedal
It’s a collapsed hose then! Split the hose from the solid pipe at the inner wing and still nothing coming out!
I got the diagnostic tool out, no faults and I can activate all of the valves in the ABS unit with no faults reported and they all click as they should
Now…,,I tried using the diagnostic to go through the ABS bleeding process.
3 out of 4 perform happily but the one with no fluid has an extended bleeding time and it’s very noisy
Failed ABS unit due to internal corrosion??
Any other thoughts?
Access to it looks like a challenge and I have quite literally just done (yesterday) the timing belt which would have made getting in there easier!

HELP!!! 🤪

Sounds like a faulty ABS unit. Can you disconnect the pipe at the block and see if fluid comes out there?

That’s the next step but it looks like a giggle to get to unfortunately

The car is still on stands, I’m going to take the undertray and the belt end engine mount off and lower the engine down to improve access
I may try some gentle taps with a percussive instrument before removing it 🤔

It was the ABS pump, I presume a corroded seized internal valve
I replace it yesterday, access is tight but removing the engine mount completely, dropping the engine down and using the small access hatch on the inner wing gives you enough space, just, to do the job.
I sourced a used one from an identical car and it went in with no programming issues.
Thanks
