By Wednesday and Thursday that roof will be hot enough to fry an egg on You cannot touch them on a really hot day.... been there, done that They are very good and long lasting though

He could lob an egg onto the roof and then monitor its progress with the camera.
....actually, while he's at it he could lob a couple of rashers of bacon and some beans as well.

Don't like Beans!! As it happens access is easy, walk up my neighbour's drive step onto the wall between us and then onto my garage roof as you can get an idea of from the picture!! Also the whole cost was only £846 which I consider a good use of my pension!!

You may remember my temporary leak solution for the garage roof as described here. Having had the roof replaced the system become redundant so I took it all out and popped the tank into the greenhouse pending a future use.

Well today I had an idea for that tank which makes me happy that it is not going to waste (No pun intended, read on!). I am terrible for going into the kitchen, having a drink of water and then rinsing the cup and pouring the rinse water down the sink. It occurred to me that I could install the tank outside in the kitchen waste pipe zone and capture that water to be used on the garden or anywhere else where 'light grey' water is acceptable.

So I cobbled together a stand from another part of the leak system frame and set the tank on it with the watering can to define the height:

Clearly the waste pipe needed modifying to run into the tank:

Then adjustment of the outlet tap to fit nicely above the watering can:

Although we are very careful about not allowing any solids down the sink it did occur to me that there may be the odd bit so I fitted a very fine gauze filter over the outlet to the watering can:

All that remains is for me to install a standard sink overflow into the back of the tank and running down to the drain to ensure that if the tank does get full it will overflow back to the waste water's original destination. As I type I am waiting for that overflow kit to be delivered from Amazon but I'll post a final picture once it is installed and up and running.

It doesn't mean we'll be saving a huge amount but every little helps these days!!

I have a similar arrangement. The kitchen cold tap has been leaking for ages. I have attempted to change the cartridge but can't shift it. I will renew the taps, one day but currently catch the drips in the washing up bowl, open the window and chuck it out.

Overflow installed and the system is in use!!

Overflow and hoses connected, the double tap is a real bonus as we can water the garden and wash the cars at the same time!!

I often wonder how much I pour down the sink when waiting for the hot water to arrive at the tap when I am on washing-up duties, it’s probably criminal …a small crop of houses built for council tenants nearby, has a rainwater harvesting system (as well as air source heat pumps and solar panels) …great ideas but I believe they were beyond economical repair after a couple of years ….I often wash the cars with the old bath water Every little helps ….. I know a shower is far more efficient but Mrs Skull insists on her daily hot bath so I end up in there after she’s scalded her flesh off
