Just had my annual insurance renewal ( Aviva) reminder pop up for our DS4. ( 1.2 petrol Auto, Fully Comp )
Its increasing by almost 25% over last year ! WTF
Max no claims and we average 4-5 k a year .. not happy bunny..
Just done a quote with LV, is about the same but with much bigger excesses... so they aint getting the business.
May I ask, has your renewal quote been wacked up too this year?
Who do you insure with?
I detest this time of year... ah well.. that's my morning jiggered up.. searching for insurance then.
Cheers
Steve

Re: Insurance Renewal Hiked
Mine was upped by 54% so I went on confused.com and found equivalent cover for £23 less than last year!! With Hastings now.
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

Mine, technically my son's, reduced by £240 this year.
He did it by lumping his house, motorbike and the car all with the same insurer.

Re: Insurance Renewal Hiked
Mine was with Aviva and renewal was 25% more! And I have been with them for many years and have other products from them.
So what I did was use go.compare and one of the quotes was for General Accident (Aviva). What, its really Aviva in disguise!
It was £220 cheaper with almost the same cover and less excess.
Just go to General Accident and do an online quote.

Re: Insurance Renewal Hiked
Cheers guys
Just done a quote with GA... that's £10 more expensive and even higher excess than Aviva ..
That's 3 that's more expensive than what I have been quoted on original renewal.. all within a tenner of each other...
Hmm.. one could suspect this is all rigged..
Blimey, Direct Line.. ( who we have house insurance with) quoted a whopping £200 + over our renewal... ( err .... cough) !
Missus reminds me, this happened last year and I ended up staying with Aviva who were the best price and lowest excess...so I let it renew
I get a feeling of groundhog day again!
Ah well... push some more quote buttons then.... or a comparison site... followed by the deluge of emails and missed calls ( If I recall using a comparison site before).
Pants this is...

Re: Insurance Renewal Hiked
It's a twice a year job for me to hit the comparison sites for the best price. I can't remember the last time I found that the renewal price was the cheapest. What I have found is that I can get a cheaper price from the same insurance company through the comparison sites. Ridiculous!
I don't always take the very cheapest quote as sometimes the minor restrictions (freebie perks, driving overseas, glass cover, driving other vehicle, etc) don't suit my circumstances but I don't have to go very far down the lists to find what I want.
I used to set aside an afternoon to do all this but it only takes a couple of hours now.
EDIT
One thing I forgot to mention is that I (try to) do the comparison checking about two weeks before the renewal date as this gets the best possible quotes.

Re: Insurance Renewal Hiked
Hmmm
On a comparison site I can get only 1 cheaper..
All the others are much of a muchness until one looks at the finer details and the low cover given on the extra's..
Eg... Legal Cover and Personal accident and windscreen cover... which vary wildly ..
Factor all that in.. and the groundhog day experience continues.....
Should I stay or should I go now.................

Re: Insurance Renewal Hiked
The Moneysavingexpert website gives good guidance on how to increase your chances of minimising your renewal premium. If all else fails - phone your insurer up and query / haggle over the price.
Premiums are increasing partly due to so many uninsured drivers being out there, and partly due to so many otherwise good newer cars being written off for fairly minor knocks. EVs suffer this issue as having to replace a load of electronics and wiring 'just in case' can tip the repair value over the edge.

Re: Insurance Renewal Hiked
Both our cars are insured through the AA and they barely changed from last year when renewed a few weeks ago. For the same benefits I could not get anything at the same price through Go compare or with Direct Line, all being much higher. When insured with Direct Line (who are now I believe owned by Aviva so might be wanting to recover the money spent buying them) they would always put up prices a lot on the renewal but then reduced it when phoned up to ask why.

Re: Insurance Renewal Hiked
Well, I shan't get that part of my life back again.
Spent hours on this cr*p'
As mine is a Self Service ON LINE Portal , I can only make contact by phone should I wish to record a claim.
Found their blurb.. gives all the usual excuses for rising costs of pretty much everything... hmmm.
I am done... tried various comparison sites,( MSE, Confused, Go Compare) and some direct quotes for those that aren't on there.
The quotes vary from £100 cheaper ( till you add the extras' in) up to a whopping £800 OVER my renewal quote!.. Ermm... 'cough'.
Yes, I can get it cheaper than my renewal..
BUT ONLY if I compromise on the cover, personal accident, legal fee's, g'teed courtesy car etc.. and massively increase my excess..
They start off looking promising, then go wild when I add in a lot of stuff that I already have ( which I need).
It's all loaded at the detail end. Getting it cheaper and reducing my overall coverage, I am not comfortable with...
Like for like, no one can touch what my current insurers offer... as SWMBO, said, that's exactly what happened last year...
Add in the 'star ratings Defaqto' and look at the Trustpilot customer reviews of some of those cheaper brand names suggested by comparison sites.. and it gives me the wobblies... no thanks.
So, unless something else pops up... looks like I will auto renew.. Not happy, but there we are... I tried...
Oh and another rant....
Meanwhile, I am not happy the way all our information/ data is harvested and shared either.. I want car insurance,, why you asking about me being a home owner, and when that insurance is due etc,
I await the deluge of email contacts asking me to look at house insurance..
Thanks for all your input anyway !
Cheers
Steve
