Just posting on another thread reminded me of my houses when I lived in England where all hinged windows opened outwards.
It was a revelation when I moved to France , over 20 years ago to, find the windows opened inwards thus allowing all types of blinds/shutters to be fitted on the outside allowing the windows to still be opened.
When I virtually rebuilt the then wreck which is now our super house I fitted electric vertical roller shutter blinds to all ground floor windows & manual top/ side hinged shutters to first floor bedrooms which can be either folded open against the reveals or top hinged to open about a foot at the bottom allowing rain proof ventilation if side/top hung windows are open.
Blinds on the outside of the windows are an absolute boon during the frequent heat waves we're experiencing & are good anti burglar aids.

Re: Openable shuttered windows
And you can clean your windows from inside.
And have window boxes full of geraniums.
And don a low cut dress* and sing an aria to passers-by.
(* Bass, baritones and tenors should avoid this and wear a tailcoat)
I do wonder why the UK differs, but maybe with thin walls and often minimally dimensioned rooms the inside opening windows would be too intrusive. Closing the curtains helps a bit, but the IR bit of the light spectrum never bounces back out so it’s far less effective than shutters.
Friends in Gloucestershire have a very old house with deep set windows, but still the shutters are inside. They are sash windows though so it goes part way to what you have.

If you watch the video that accompanies John Lennon singing Imagine you can watch Yoko Ono folding the internal shutters back to let light in.Richard_C wrote: Yesterday, 12:21 ... a very old house with deep set windows, but still the shutters are inside.
As I get older I think a lot about the hereafter - I go into a room and then wonder what I'm here after.

Re: Openable shuttered windows
Well spotted.
In very old 'old houses' there were usually internal wooden shutter boxes, built alongside the deep reveals, designed to hide the folded back wooden shutters when not in use.
