Newport Pagnell Carnival 2026 Classic Car Show

Unread post by CitroJim »

So near me, I could almost crawl there!

Noting French was on show, not even one of mine... Mostly British...

Just a few of the tasty cars there:

This Imp was my favourite :D

A couple more...

The Capri is a Tickford and thus has a close association with the town. I live in a locality called Tickford End.

The remainder of the photos were taken on a proper camera and will be posted when I've developed and processed the film. They'll be worth the wait ;)

I like the Imp !! :-D
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

My brother's first car was a Singer Chamois, a slightly more upmarket Imp, and he has a soft spot for them as a result.
As I get older I think a lot about the hereafter - I go into a room and then wonder what I'm here after.

Inside every old person is a young person wondering what the hell happened.

My mate Bob had a sporty Imp as his first car and then later a Chamois. Never forgotten his breakdown on the M1 J9 Southbound exit when the water pump broke!! I had to leave work on casual leave, drive to Midnight Motors in Watford to collect a water pump then up the M1 to J10 so I could turn round and join him on the J9 slip road exit. It only took about 25 mins to change the water pump and fortunately there was a stream nearby for emergency refill!! :-D

I always wanted an Imp when I first started driving... Dad would not hear of it... Still lots of worry over head gaskets failing in those days...

A water pump in 25 minutes is good going Mick :D Beats my ten minutes to swap an AX alternator by a long way!!!

I had three engines for my Imp. One in the car, one on the garage bench being fixed and one fixed and waiting to go in the car. Until I found the cause, which was the silly placement of the radiator and the fact that it got clogged with leaves and other road debris.
The other big problem with them was a pin in the steering gear that wore out in about five minutes. I have looked for the name of them as I can't remember it, but failed.
After doing it many times I was told, first of an easier way to dismantle them and remove the old bearing and to use oil instead of grease when reassembling them.

My mate Bernie has just finished restoring his Commer Imp van and he's made a lovely job of it. He found it in a leaky lock up and had suffered quite badly but not a basket case.
