Oil Pressure Switch ?

Unread post by Uncle Tom Cobley »

Prior to my BPGA unit woes there were three faults showing in total ,the BPGA , DPF full and blocked with soot and an open circuit on the Engine Oil Pressure Switch.
Also prior to the BPGA the car had started to bog badly losing power etc when trying to accelerate.

As a faulty BPGA can throw out lots of false faults I was pretty sure that this was the cause of the other two faults.
However, since May 13th the car has run well with its new BPGA unit until this Sunday when the bogging reappeared .

I thought perhaps it was another brain fart as this car has had a few of them over the years but I was wrong, when accelerating up to 72 mph the warning light came on and bleeped and I got the message *Risk of particle filter blockage* Refer to the handbook.
It did this several times on test runs afterward ,bogging then the message coming on.
I called on the services of a company called DPF-DR .

He came yesterday and after plugging it all in said that my DPF was absolutely fine and said it was a manufacturer ploy to get you to buy a new DPF.
He reset everything and basically told the cars computer that a new DPF had been fitted.

But last night the car went South , suddenly on the dual carriageway it started to bog badly ,that sign came back on then it went into limp mode with the engine management light illuminated.
As it cost me £200 for his services he is calling back this morning.

He says that it is definitely not the DPF and is totally sure it is the Oil Pressure Switch.

Would an open circuit OPS cause all these symptoms? And if so how hard are they to fit seeing at least a new OPS is around £25-£30 so not too stinging.
And finally whereabouts on a C4 Picasso Grand 1.6 Diesel 2016 is the switch located ?

If the engine is the same this link will help: viewtopic.php?p=565753#p565753 :)
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

Thanks MTM.
The guy has been back ,wired it all up to his laptop and this time it was showing DPF full ( he was scratching his head over that one but I do believe him to be honest ) so a full cleanse was carried out and *touch wood* everything seems hunky dory ATM.
I ordered a new OPS from Autodoc and that should be here tomorrow , it was £23 with free next day delivery as opposed to a local Motor Factor who had one on the shelf @£77 ! Me thinks it will be on the shelf for a little while longer.
Looks easy enough to fit, the DPF guy showed me the switch and it’s in the front of the car and reasonably easy to get at from the top.
He thinks off the top of his head that it’s a 17mm socket ?

Could be, it looks as if it is next to an oil cooler. If you can get a socket over the connector part you will probably need a deep one.

Thanks Paul,
I have a set of deep sockets so fingers crossed I have one that fits.

For future reference to others doing this job:
This is the Oil Pressure Switch on a 2016 1.6 Diesel Picasso Grand and is easily accessible.
It is in the front of the engine about half way down next to the oil cooler nothing needs to be removed to get at it.
The hardest part of the job by far was getting the electrical connector off and even harder to get it to snap into place on the new Oil Pressure Switch.
To get it off pull the grey locking tab towards you then press down and wriggle gently.
To get it back on I found a smidgeon of washing up liquid eventually helped but push down on the grey locking tab and gently wriggle back in place until you hear a click.
Tools required are a 24mm deep socket.
