Re: If you could have any one , which would you pick?
That's beautiful.
When I was at school (a long time ago!) in the sixth form, one of my contemporaries had a Riley RMF, which is the 2-1/2 litre version of the RME. According to what he said it wouldn't quite crack the ton and maxed out at 99mph. Frankly anything over 60mph would have been a white knuckle ride I reckon!
I did lust after that car. In contrast, my first car was an Austin A35!

As I get older I think a lot about the hereafter - I go into a room and then wonder what I'm here after.

Re: If you could have any one , which would you pick?
In the previous Spicers auction, there were quite a few I'd have, but nothing that stood out. However, on this Anglia Car auctions lot, there's quite a few I could be tempted with.....
The 1966 Toyota Corona RT40 - rare as a rare thing over here.
The 1973 Peugeot 304 Convertible - 'cos it's just nice.
The 1988 Mercedes 300CE C124 - but not in white, thanks.
The 2006 Jag XK 4.2 - it looks so good.
The 1988 Fiat 126 - I drove one once, I nearly collapsed at the wheel laughing my head off
The 1980 Crompton Leyland milk float - my first foray into electric vehicles ?
The 1973 Austin Maxi - a nice piece of history.
But it comes down to either the 1952 Land Rover Minerva or the 1987 Mercedes 420SEL W126..... and I think I'll have to settle for.....

Re: If you could have any one , which would you pick?
I very nearly bought one (here's what you could have wone ) many years ago. It was park up a drive just around the corner from me for ages and looked a bit sorry for itself, then I spotted it in Auto Trader for £700. The next day I went round with cash in hand just in time to see it being loaded onto a trailer and whisked awayPaul-R wrote: 28 Mar 2026, 10:19 That's beautiful.

Re: If you could have any one , which would you pick?
I have been through this sale more times than anyone would believe because nothing jumps right out at me as a must have!! Like bobins there are a number that would go on my shortlist but even from that list there is not an obvious favourite. So I have made my choice based solely on the registration number for want of any other way to choose

It's been a while since we had a sale to pick from so I thought this rather mixed up selection may prove worth a delve?

It would be either the Alpine or the Rover P5. Most likely the Rover just to be wafted along in comfort by that silky big six
I'm used to being wafted in the BX so would be nice to compare the ride.

Hmmmm..... Hampson auctions........ they're going through a bit of a 'sub-optimal' PR issue at the moment
I've looked at the results from some of their auctions in the past and they've raised a few 'surprises'......
I shall look at what they've got to offer this time 'round, but only out of curiosity.

This latest list from WB & Sons is likely to take some time to choose!!

However after 40 mins browsing I have settled on a rather specific vehicle because I know it ticks someone else's boxes!!

Re: If you could have any one , which would you pick?
I was tempted by the 1980 Mercedes-Benz 350SE, but looking how frilly the lower edges seem, I think I'll pass on that.
The other 1980 Merc - the 380SL - looks in very good order, but I think I'll pass on that as well.
The 1972 Lightweight Land Rover is tempting, it could go with my 1975 88" one
But I think I'll settle for the 2019 Morgan Plus 6..... I just hope I can fit in it

Re: If you could have any one , which would you pick?
The Renault 5 GT Turbo is tempting because it would bring back memories of my R5 Gordini. I traded that in for my first 'complicated' Citroen, having had Dyanes, an early BX 19RD because I was doing seriously high milegae. On a long trip the journey time was less in the BX - didn't have to stop to fill up like in the R5.
But no.
We used to do long trips to the Alps in winter, 2 hours to Eurotunnel, early train crossing, set the cruise to 130 and a bit kph, somewhere beyond Geneva for dinner. The SAAB 9-5 and later the Citroen C5 111 were excellent for that, especially the SAAB because it was auto and the seats were superb. We passed and were passed by many much grander cars on thos trips, and the only ones I envied for sheer 'gentlemanly cruising' were Bentley Continentals. So one of those please....
I love the shape of the 2 door, and it shoud be big enough for just the 2 of us now the offspring are long gone. Lot 78. The red is a bit 'shouty' for my taste on a big car, but maybe I can save up for a respray in dark green or dark blue.
(as an aside, the "aires" on the autoroutes beyond Dijon were places of cultural contrast at the start of the Easter holidays. Brits and Belgians off to the high alps to find the last of the snow to ski on, Parisians and people from places like Lille (Lillians?) off to the Med for the first of the warm weather. 2 cars parked next to each other - one could have a boot full of thick warm coats and ski boots, the one next to it a boot full of skimpy beachwear and flip flops. Further on, Macon or Bourg, people divide, Autoroute Blanche or Autoroute de Soleil, and the car parks are homgenous once more).
