My Dec '99 Pug 806 Hdi has given me great service since I bought it in 2002
For about 6 years it's been pretty much mothballed with only about 1,000 km per year usage, mainly on trips to the tip where she's really usefull.
Because of the above it's not had a spanner on it for ages & the whilst it still passes the 2 yearly CT (MOT) the list of advisories is mounting.
I've looked at changing it for a more modern vehicle but nothing under mega euros would beat the old gal so I got a quote from the local Citroen garage which has serviced our C4 since new thinking I'd keep it running for a good few years if done.
To. Replace all brake flexibles, front discs & pads
New cam belt, water pump & alt. belt etc, Flush out system.
Oil change & filter.
Sort out umpteen other silly little things.
Total cost inc tax about 1,200 in your English pounds
Dunno if that's reasonable but I'm more than happy as I trust the garage owner & would have spent out a shed load more dosh to replace the old dear with some unknown similar type of vehicle.

No serious signs of rot down under with only a couple of rusty dinks above rear lights to show body wise.
Tarted up she looks great & CT man always comments how good she is .
It's the Roland Garros model with leather seats & all the goodies of that era which, AC apart , all still work.

Yes I'd stick with it Vic, spend the money and keep on top of little rust spots so they don't develop and it will give you year's more service

Just collected the old gal.
As well as the things I've mentioned they also replaced a suspension triangle with it's ball joint & umpteen bushes on anti roll bar etc.
Blimey! living with her for the last 20 years I didn't realise how 'sloppy' things had gradually got.
The work has certainly 'stiffened' things up & she now drives like a new car , whatever that is
Cost me quite a few more euros than original quote but worth every centime.

About 550 euros (£480) inc tax.
Bear in mind this is a Citroen garage with commensurate labour & parts prices.
Maybe possible to find cheaper independent but garage has serviced our C4 for 12 years so I know owner well. They are trustworthy, reliable & fair which to me is worth paying for.
I've now got a workhorse that'll probably outlast me.

I'd call that a definite win-win. There is no way you could have bought another car with the same characteristics yours now has for even twice that amount. Not to mention saving the car hunt and selling pain that would have gone with that route. Well done that man!!

Not long after collecting the Old Gal & about 80km traveled, a pal noticed a water spot on the floor under the region of the screen washer bottle.
The next day Mme & pal took car to local tip & on their return I tried the washers as Mme said they weren't working
Well yes they were, she was hitting wrong buttons, but water leak now brown more & prefuse.
On opening the coolant bottle cap & breaking vacuum, brown water dripped out constantly but I can't see where it's coming from. Garage owner said maybe 'distributeur?'
Car's never had a coolant top up to my knowledge so presumably something garage did is causing it.
No problems from garage to take it in to sort leak but problem is they were to be on 3 weeks hols from the 14 Aug with garage totally shut & first appointment after hols. is Sept 17. Bloody French
Good job I rarely use the old gal & here's hoping I can manage the 15km to the garage without losing a lot of water with attendant possible damage. Fortunately it's got coolant level warning sensor & temperature gauge so should be ok.
At the moment, vaccum & water holding in rad & block etc with bottle cap firmly screwed on so I ain't touching things 'till nearer her garage return & she can stay put in barn.
