renault captur electrics dead

Unread post by John and Lorraine »

Hi, we bought a 2017 Renault Captur 1.5l DCI diesel last year, with approx. 90,000km on the clock. Having parked in a retail park, I came back to the car, and went to start it. All the warning lights on the dash suddenly flashed and then everything went dead. There was no life whatsoever in the car, the engine wouldn’t even try to turnover. I couldn't even lock the car. A mechanic from a nearby VW garage tried to jump start it, to no avail. I called the AA and they also tried and failed to start it. The AA towed it to the garage where we bought it (Mazda dealer), who couldn't find the fault, and (after much delay) transferred it to the local Renault dealer. They did their diagnostics, but couldn’t ID the problem. They've replaced various parts, but still nothing is working. They are trying to argue now that either the VW mechanic or the AA guy hooked the battery up the wrong way and fried the electrics, which doesn’t sound plausible to me (as I say, the car died before they looked at it). They say they’re now trying to find a donor car to test replace other parts to see if that will work. Unfortunately the car was out of warranty, and as you can imagine, we’re concerned now that repair costs will exceed the car’s value. Has anyone else had this issue? Thanks in advance for any advice or insights.

Since the garage you bought it from sent it on to the Renault dealer I would suggest that following up is their task not yours! :)
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!
