2014 C4 Picasso Airdream Auto

Unread post by nomisnosmada »

Hi,
My wife has a 2014 Citroen C4 Picasso Airdream Automatic. It’s done about 45,000 miles.
It seems as though the clutch is slipping. I’ve done some research which suggests this auto box is a basically an adapted manual box and this is common.
Questions for you experts…..
1. Is it common at only 45k?
2. Is it worth getting it repaired?
3. Does anyone near Harrogate (North Yorkshire) know of anywhere to get it done? (I’ve rang around a few who say they can’t do it)
4. What should I expect to pay?

No idea what engine you have but as a guide our 2016 1.6 hdi Cactus with a manual gear box had a new clutch and dual mass flywheel fitted by a Citroen dealer last year and it was about £2100. A quote from a small garage was not much different. Then it was on about 76k miles. The actual miles at which a clutch wears out depends on how many times the clutch has been used and how it has been used.

A search on the Citroen site gives the nearest Citroen dealer to Harrogate is

I know that area, and that main dealer garage.

I would try K. Newby auto services, just round the corner. I would be surprised if they could not help you.

Thanks. I literally live around the corner from Newby’s. It’s just been there for service and test. They couldn’t do it, unfortunately.

It’s the 1.6 hdi but the auto/semi-auto box. Driven very steady (🤣) by my missus.

This might be a long shot, but perhaps it's worth checking out one of the youtube garages that specialise in complex repairs/fault finding.

https://www.youtube.com/@bazmeredith

This guy takes on a lot of difficult jobs and does them to a very high standard it seems.

In fact....one of his videos...

(seems like it might be the robotised manual).

He is a fair distance though.....

(interestingly he is a bit bemused why a lot of garages refused to do these, judging by the comments section)

Maybe youtube searching for well established local garages who pride themselves on their work is an option to try.

I just thought of another local-ish firm you may want to try.

ES Motors in north-east Leeds. They are a similar vibe to Newby's, family run, small outfit.

But it might be worth giving them a shot. I can't vouch for them personally but they have a good reputation and, at the very least, may know a garage more local than Wrexham that will do the work.

DK Motor Group specialise in these: https://dkmotorgroup.co.uk/ They are a bit of a trek from you, but do them day in day out, they will probably come and collect it if it can't make it under its own steam. It will be into 4 figures to get it fixed, but if it is otherwise OK and suits your needs then fixing it will be cheaper than buying another one. 45k miles is early, but presumably if it has only done 45k in 12 years, then it mostly does short journeys which will wear the clutch faster than lots of m-way miles!
