Re: Dpf clean
If diluting with water add the acid to the water and not the other way round so it does not spit out. Obviously wear safety goggles and rubber/PVC gloves gloves. This is probably in the vidoes but I have not watched them.

Re: Dpf clean
Is it better not to dilute? Sounds like i need 15 litres if doing a bath, may just block the ends and sensor holes and pour in from top

Re: Dpf clean
I used it straight from the bottles so I cannot comment on its effectiveness if diluted. However having used it I ran the used fluid through a very fine filter (the ones I used to clean chip oil to run in my car) to remove particles and returned it to the bottles for reuse. You can reclaim 70-80% depending on how you go about it. I have now cleaned 4 dpfs from the original batch I bought.

Re: Dpf clean
My opinion, based on how reactive the DPF powder was in the video with the 3:1 diluted 32% acid, is that it would be fine. If that equates to 8% concentration then I wouldn't go lower than 5% so, with 9.8% brand new acid, probably 3 parts acid to 1 part water.
Mick raises a very valid point though. If you dilute it you'll end up with more than the original 5 litres so what will you do with the excess?

Re: Dpf clean
I was surprised but some DPF's have a cat inside as well, even some of the completely sealed ones.

Re: Dpf clean
Having never tried to do it that way I'm not sure that you will be able to block all the holes sufficiently. Can you not find a suitable container to submerge it in? I went for 45 mins on the advice of a friend and he did say don't overdo it!!

Re: Dpf clean
The only thing I would try for sealing would be self amalgamating tape but it would almost certainly be much cheaper to buy a baby bath like this, rather than the amount of tape you'd need, which wouldn't guarantee sealing anyway.

Re: Dpf clean
Is that duck tape? Would tin foil not work with insulating tape? My dpf looks bigger than that bath in length

Re: Dpf clean
No its not duct tape. It is a purpose made tape for sealing plumbing joints and it is not cheap!!

Check the measurements, my dpf jobs were all done in a baby bath of similar type, they are available in different sizes, the link I posted was just an example!

Re: Dpf clean
Is it possible to fit bolts into the sensor locations to bung them up?
And have the DPF in a strong polythene bag to minimise the quantity of acid needed.

Tin foil (aluminium) will dissolve in hydrochloric acid.

Re: Dpf clean
I may try bolts that fit in the hole with some sort of glue

Re: Dpf clean
Would the fingers off marigold gloves be ok block extruding sensor holes tightened down with elastic?
