So the coolant has got transmission fluid in it, and my transmission fluid (AM6) has got coolant in it.
I have drained the transmission and coolant from the car (2008 Peugeot 407 2.0hdi) and removed the heat exchanger from the front of the transmission. I expect at least I will need to replace that and seals?
What would be the best approach to try and save this transmission? Is it possible to flush the transmission, if so what could I flush it with? Should I remove the valve body and check things there too?
Any and all suggestions welcome.

The usual accepted method to flush out the transmission is simply to refill, run, drain, refill, run, drain etc the number of times it takes to get clean fluid out on the drain cycle. You need to cycle the box through its gears each time it is run to try to rinse every part of the box each time. Unfortunately it is possibly expensive depending on how many flushes you need. Obviously replace the heat exchanger and seals first but personally I'd try the flush before interfering with the electrovalves. Good luck
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

See Dave Halworth's blog starting here viewtopic.php?p=624445#p624445 and the next several pages. He was unlucky enough to have 2 cars with bad transmission coolers.
