Cooling Levels DS3 1.6 HDI 92hp

Unread post by joaocpereira »

Hello,

The DS3 1.6 HDI 92hp normally needs to top up cooling a few times or is there an issue?

1º Photo (18/02/2026) with 181.578 KM
2º Photo today (25/05/2026) with 183.407 KM

Both photos taken with cold engine. I know some cars consume more than others, but this seems like a very small number of kilometers for such a big difference. Note that I don't see any liquid on the ground (I removed the protective cover under the engine to check for leaks).

The top photo seems to have the cap on while the second has it off. Is the level change partially a result of pressure release on removing the cap? :)
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

The lower photo says you have too much in the bottle, the top says it's about right.
The max line is the absolute maximum that should be in the system, whereas, the min is the minimum amount. The system will push out anything over the maximum.

Therefore, I would say the top photo shows the correct amount of coolant - halfway between min & max.

I removed the cap but nothing changes, since the car was cold.

Yes I know that was above, but when I add the cooling in february it was below the minimun, so return to close the minimun and for sure will continuing to go down. I think that event the system pushing out, shoudn't be so low. Or can the type of the cooling affect that? When I bought the car already come with a green one, should I put another one?

Btw, The cap s always spinning, it gets tight but it's always spinning. Maybe should change the cap or the reservoir before try anything else no?

May be something, and for a few quid is worth it, if nothing else to rule it out.

The type of coolant should not cause the level to fall provided you have been using an ethylene glycol type.

Normally the coolant should not need topping up much if at all. Maybe around 200 ml per 16000 km which would take the level from minimum to about the join in the tank. If you are putting in around 200 ml every 2000 km then it is being lost somewhere - possibilities include a leak, from the water pump seal, from a head gasket leak in to an engine cylinder, a radiator leak, a heater matrix leak.
