fault code P13C2 (Voltage retaining device) can anyone help?

Unread post by JayRenton »

Hi guys, ive had the check engine light come on my Peugeot Partner mk3 2019 1.6hdi, Ive had 2 mobile mechanics look at it with no joy, it seems it could be related to the stop start system, which is weird because its never actually worked before, but now i've got this problem, the stop\start has started working.
I am hoping someone has experienced something similar?

Thanks, James

You may find a read through this thread helpful: viewtopic.php?p=835600#p835600 :)
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

Thanks for the reply mate, I have already read that post, my problem is slightly different, as my stop/start is actually working ok,
It’s just the check engine light coming on.

I’ve had the battery off, and all the connections seem ok, the battery and alternator have also been checked.

Could it be that the Voltage retaining unit is faulty? Is this something I could swap out without it needing it coding to the vehicle?
Mine is the later model, where they have done away with the extra power capacitor, it just relies on the main battery as far as I’m aware.

Thanks, James

You could try a BSI reset as per the link below but I don't know if it will make any difference: :)

Thanks for the reply, yes I’ve tried the BSI reset and still no joy.

Today I’ve striped out the battery tray to access the earth points, I’ve taken them off, and sanded them clean, I’ve checked all the fuses in engine bay, and checked all the power cables.
I also removed the start stop voltage retaining unit and all the connections are good, and I’ve charged the battery for a few hours just to rule that out, buts it’s in good health.

I’ve ordered a 2nd hand Voltage retaining unit as they are quite cheap.

Does anyone know if I can just swap it out and it will work? Or will it need coding in?

Doing my head in this is now, but I’m determined to get to the bottom of it.

Cheers James

But of an update!!

The start/stop module has been changed at an auto electrics garage, and the fault still remains.

There is also an oil pump solenoid fault showing, the van is still running absolutely fine.
It’s booked in again for further investigation.

This is really frustrating.
