Citroen C2 VTR 1.4 Faulty ABS Pump

Unread post by DannyAns »

Hello my C2 now has 207.000 kilometers driven and since then the abs pump has failed after getting a abs fault light and after sending it to a mechanic to scan the codes it was the abs pump. First my car would make a weird sound after around 20km/h wich is the sound of the abs pump testing everything but it doesnt make any sound what so ever, i have tried braking hard to maybe wake up the pump with no succes i have seen on a facebook post that this was the end first i would be the abs pump stopping after that the power steering pump and after that nothing. I was wondering if it would maybe be a fuse or if anyone has had this issue too and what would solve this issue. Hope to hear!

I cannot view facebook on my secure system so I cannot make any comments. :)
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

I am a bit confused. You have said a mechanic has checked the abs pump and found it to be faulty. Have you now replaced the abs pump ? If replaced what makes you think it is now faulty, do you still have fault codes ? Was a replacement pump coded to your car ?

I have never normally heard an abs pump on our cars, the only time I have found it to be working is when braking on snow/ice with a foot on the brake pedal.

I do not use facebook so have not looked at your link.

If you live in the northern hemisphere, there are 3 classic causes of ABS failures. And they all involve snow and salt!
First is a build up of mud between the front wheel bearing and the ABS sensor. Next is corrosion of the contacts in the big electrical connector of the ABS ECU (despite the connector being in a plastic bag). And third is the pump motor rusting up.

I don't think the ABS needs to be coded to the car. But either way, you can separate the ECU from the hydraulic block and just replace the hydraulic block, which contains the pump.

The cars speed is derived from the ABS. If the ABS does not "tell" the rest of the cars' system how fast the car is going, then this can cause problems. Yes, the power steering will stop working and you wont get any speed on the instrument cluster. HOWEVER, if your fault is JUST the ABS pump, then the ABS will still be able to transmit the cars speed to the rest of the systems.

I don't know what the whole "my car would make a weird sound after around 20km/h" is all about, so I cant comment on that. Could be anything. I don't think you could hear the sound of the ABS pump over the sound of the engine (if that was the case).

As an aside, If you activate the ABS by hitting the brakes fast and hard, while the car is in motion, the brake peddle will go straight to the floor!!!! It is very disconcerting! The system has Brake Force Assist.
