I have no qualifications in engineering, but I KNOW that the Prince Engine in my RCZ 1.6 is designed to run too hot.It might help with emissions and aid direct injection, but it thins the oil, aiding and abetting the terrible oil consumption of that engine, and bakes the plastic components.
I saw a post on the site whereby a member ran a wire from the headlight to the piloted thermostat,In order to heat the wax tablet quicker, hence opening the thermostat before 100C.
Genius idea, anyone tried it.His engine was operating at 90C rather than 105C plus.
Do you think the wire that runs from the ecu to the heater could be left in place or left unconnected?
Appreciate any thoughts?

If the control wire for the thermostat is disconnected the ECU will record a fault and shut off the A/C compressor. You can get around that by fitting a 50Ω resistor in place of the thermostat element.
I don't know if reducing the coolant temperature by a few degrees is going to prolong the life of anything, most of the seals etc that fail regularly are exposed to oil which runs hotter than the coolant.
My impression is that the oil consumption is driven by gummed up or worn piston rings, and not much can be done without an engine rebuild.

The thermostat in the 1.6 petrol engine is designed for 105 C. But you should definitely find out ( with the Obd2 reader ) what the operating temperature is now.

If you want a higher oil viscosity look at using a different oil.

Thanks for replies.
Am using 10/40 to help, helps a bit.Totally get the point about piston rings/valve seals.
I have a gauge connected to obd2 that shows the thermostat opens at 100C.
Have a switch connected to the radiator fan so I have manual control over it.When gauge shows 102C alarm set to sound and put radiator fan on.Driving 100 101.Stationary rises.
At standard temp of 105 108C no wonder the expansion tanks are known to split.
I am mechanically sympathetic, and think a lower temp would put the engine and its auxicillaries under less stress.

Re: Reduce water temp Prince Engine
Any help appreciated on setting up wiring.
I think I am right in saying there are 4 wires going to the thermostat. Two wires heat the wax element, and two wires are concerned with sending the temp reading back to the ECU.
Do you think I could splice the power wire from the ecu that heats the wax tablet, with a wire taken from the headlight power wire, not sure where you would connect an earth for it,and then run a switch on the dash to turn the spur from the headlight wire off at times, for fear of burning out heating element in thermostat.
I think the nurse is coming……….
