Oil Indicator Citroen C2

Unread post by raz3n »

Hello,
Today I saw that my C2 instead of displaying the usual Oil OK message it displayed Oil -- (3rd on Picture below).
Spoiler: show
Image
I Have checked with the manual dipstick and it seems that there's no loss of oil.
I guess that could be some wiring/sensor issue. I got plenty of jobs to do on weekend and no time to visit a mechanic.
Is this anything I can do to verify that the car is safe to drive?

The picture you have shown suggests the level indicator has a fault, not that the oil level is wrong and you have proved this with the dipstick. Some time in the future you could check the connector on the level probe to see if it is a bad connection. It will be somewhere around the middle of the engine block. If you search on C2 oil level probe you will find pictures of the probe.

The oil level indicators are not very reliable.
You are doing well if it works 7 out of 10 starts.
The sensor is located very close to the line between the block and oil pan, just behind the catalytic converter. The oil level sensor and the oil pressure switch electrical connectors are usually encased by a fiberglass tube with a reflective coating. This is to stop the plastic connector melting from the heat of the exhaust!
The only reliable oil level indication is from the dipstick.

Thanks a lot for your replies guys.
I was reading those between work but was unable to answer due to time.

After a few drives the sensor worked again, thing is that I have the car for almost 2 years driving almost everyday and it never failed until now.
BUT on the other hand, we have a lot of stray cats in the neighborhood nowadays and I found a lot of pet hair under the hood(3 weeks ago there were no pet hair) so my guess is that cats are getting there to get warm or just to chill and maybe they knocked the connector or the cable.

I have to change oils/filters etc after the next 200km so I will inspect the area too and see if I replace the sensor or the wiring.

Thank you again for your replies.

While it's your money and your prerogative, I don't recommend replacing the sensor. You may be disappointed to find the replacement unit has failed in a short period of time. As I said, they are unreliable.
It's rare that the sensors fail altogether, they just tend to work sometimes and not others. :dunno:
IIRC the oil PRESSURE switch has a grey electrical connector and is just under the oil filter. And the oil LEVEL sensor has a green connector and is sort-of behind the catalytic converter on the block. Both should be wrapped in this silver foil thing.
Good luck.
