Let’s talk mountings

Unread post by mattyjay98 »

Hi all,

Got a 2011 3008 1.6 manual with 135k on the clock.

Just had rear shock replaced and been advised the the cause of a vibration/shudder I’ve had in the car for a long time is the ‘gearbox lower reaction arm’ and ‘gearbox mountings’.

I’ve been quoted £450 to repair however I am in the process of moving house etc so trying to save costs.

I understand the ‘lower reaction arm’ is the lower engine mount. This I will get the garage to do as currently beyond my capability at home.

Now the gearbox mount, what one am I after? Is it the circular type with the rubber centre, or the metal bracket? See related pics. The circular type I’m absolutely confident I can replace. The metal bracket, I only saw these on eBay and can’t find any videos referencing them/replacement guides. I was confident it was the circular type until the eBay fitment checker disagreed, yet GSF car parts did say the circular type would fit. Further, eBay said the black bracket was what fitted my car.

I am also going to replace the engine mount on the right hand side, again confident I can do that.

So advice on what type of gearbox mounting is required would be great please, along with any relevant torque specs/additional resources like exploded diagrams or fitting guides!

Thanks!
Matt

It is normally the centre Mt at the back lower of the engine is the one that normally wears. The Gearbox and the engine mtgs are pretty robust. If there is any sign of wear/excess play, replace them but I would replace the lower centre one 1st and check engine rock afterwards. Once you've done the rear one, give it a good rock or place the car in 1st gear and rock it with the handbrake on checking the movement, you may need a helper to assist. Check Before and after maybe advisable so you can see the differance.
