Purging the hydraulics of foul LHM... A new improved method?

Unread post by Rhothgar »

Hi all,

Could do with some quick thoughts on this as, now I have convalesced, I need to crack back on with the Xantiae post haste.

Please take a look at the linked videos:-

Height Corrector External Gunk

Height Corrector Internal GUNK

The LHM is beyond FOUL and I don't really want to have to keep replacing LHM. I want to do two complete changes MAXIMUM!

I was thinking about this last night.

Can I attached 3 lengths of tight fitting rubber hose to each height corrector at a time and drop them into empty bottles/containers and THEN...

Tighten up the accumulator nut with a full LHM reservoir (either with LHM or 5 litres of diesel), start the car and then it purge the HC pipes FAST!!!!

I appreciate it is going to get used up pretty quickly but pressure is not likely to build because the system isn't sealed. I am thinking that this will cleanse the system superfast.

Do that on each of the height correctors and then bleed the brakes at each corner in line with the recommendations of the Mechanics Handbook.

Would diesel provide enough lubrication/protection?

Also, does anyone know what purpose two pipes on one side and one pipe on other serve please? I am guessing the single pipe goes to the brakes?

I would intend to watch the reservoir and immediately top it up with 5 litres of LHM just before it empties?

I really don't want to do it the usual way of putting LHM in and then driving for 500-1000 miles with a cup of diesel in and then change the fluid first off. I would like to try this method and then revert to the proper method.

I don't think the dirty LHM is the cause of my rear suspension hardness but if a system is that foul it certainly cannot be good.

I'm sort of thinking that after engine switch on the suspension goes get fully pumped up until about 30 seconds afterwards so maybe the pressure can never get ridiculous high without a sealed system. The 6+2 pump cannot shift THAT much LHM.

I'd be interested to know how much fluid it does displace per complete rotation. I'll bet some has worked that out.
