Re: Falcon's Bargain Basement Motoring
Decent enough day for a fair weather tinkerer. Did the injector cleaning thing with my aforementioned tyre valve adaptor. Decided not to do the little filters....they look pretty femmer new, and as far as the testing went don't think they were offering any impedance to the spray through when the injectors were activated. The next custodian can spend a couple of hundred putting brand new injectors in if they wish. I reckon the injectors are fine.
When Tea time Tea called and put an appropriate end to the days activity, the Clio was back reassembled virtually intact, although not quite ready for the restart. Its a big mistake in the Falcon fair weather tinkerer rule book, not to allow after a decent tinkering session, the enjoyment of a period of time when anticipation of a successful outcome from the days labours remains a possibility.

Yes, I believe this is a valid concern. Think those generic inline filters are low pressure and there's a high pressure variant too. Very rusty memory, can't think why I'd have looked into it in the past!bobins wrote: 02 Apr 2026, 10:08 My main concern would be what pressure the fuel line runs at and is the filter rated for that.![]()
Will have a dig when I get chance

Re: Falcon's Bargain Basement Motoring
The information on detailed spec of fuel filters is poor across the board Matt. However, an in-line filter is fitted to some 1.2 16V versions of the Clio just not mine, and hence there are loads under £10 from many manufacturers which meet or exceed the Renault compatibility spec for fuel pressure/flow. The simple clear ones like that one from Halfords are probably low pressure items and not suitable. At the other end of the scale £50 plus buys a high pressure spec filter in Metal in the main like this https://www.demon-tweeks.com/uk/sytec-h ... r-2010167/

Yes, I was going to suggest a standard metal canister filter plus a couple of hose tail to fuel pipe clip connectors was probably the cheapest suitable option.

Minor irritations...connectors which after a good deal of wasted time...remain hard to work out how they fitted together when you took them off and pulled the retainer wire into a detached state!

A slight off topic query, does Nissan's ending support for their app, as Steve's post on the electric thread, affect your newer Leaf Neil?

Never used it or knowingly subscribed to it Mick, so I think my own simplistic requirements of a relationship with Nissan ( ie none) hopefullly wont be affected too much!mickthemaverick wrote: 04 Apr 2026, 18:24 A slight off topic query, does Nissan's ending support for their app, as Steve's post on the electric thread, affect your newer Leaf Neil?![]()

Excellent, I just hope, for the future, they don't have the ability to update your car without your consent

Re: Falcon's Bargain Basement Motoring
The Clio is back together. I probably will clean up the pre cat O2 Sensor. If its anything like the spark plugs it will need a bit of a refresh!
The "old" O2 sensor tests out ok for the heater circuit resistance, so I have the option of a clean up on that to try before the intervention of another new sensor.

Looking back in the thread The BB Clio got a pair of new 02 Sensors (Cambiare) 2 years ago in March 2024, along with a new CAT and Downpipe

Re: Falcon's Bargain Basement Motoring
Marginal repair work required, looks like the wiring connector to the knock sensor is going to require a bit of repair. The white wire has snapped off right at he plastic moulding so repair required a bit of cutting the red wire too, and doing the repair off-vehicle, and joining the wires once the repair is done. Clio's are very scarce in scrapyards round here so chopping off a similar connector from a scrap car is too much running around effort.
The repair method required as yet to be determined. the end result needs a new "white" wire connected to the connector pin, then the red and white wires rejoining up to the "loom".

Re: Falcon's Bargain Basement Motoring
I have in the past repaired that type of plug by drilling into the body of the plug and then inserting a piece of piano wire onto the actual pin and soldering. Then join the loom wire to the piano wire 'stem', encase the joint in resin and done!!

Thanks, I give that tip the thumbs up Mick, seems like a good plan to me!mickthemaverick wrote: 05 Apr 2026, 21:10 I have in the past repaired that type of plug by drilling into the body of the plug and then inserting a piece of piano wire onto the actual pin and soldering. Re: Falcon's Bargain Basement Motoring
The visuals look a bit messy but it is a simple connection to manufacture, easier if the sensor itself is off-vehicle hance the 24mm deep socket.
Both the broken off white wire and its pin, and the red wire and its pin, have been removed by careful destruction while leaving enough integrity in the original fitting to reuse. unlikely that any shopping trip either in real life or on the internet will replicate the original receiving female pins, but all that is required is an electrical connection and a suitable metal tube should do culled from one of those crimp connectors.

Is the Firestick Remote an essential component to the process?
