CX25 DTR T2 - fuel priming pump question

Unread post by wurlycorner »

Hi all
I'm trying to get my CX25 DTR T2 engine running (this poor thing has been sat on my drive for a decade). it ran when parked, but now won't start - fires momentarily during crank, only.

I suspect fuel delivery is the problem and have gone through trying to prime the system.

It's decades (plural) since I've had to do that, so I've forgotten what 'normal' feels like on the priming pump and have a query for those more familiar with it - how 'hard' should the plunger go when primed? And is it necessary to open the bleed screw when priming, or not?
When I pump it, I can't really notice any change in feeling and it's not hugely hard to push - but as I say, I can't remember what 'normal' is like.

Before I determine that the fuel pipe under the car has failed and hence it's not drawing anything through from the tank (the gauge shows plenty in the tank) I'd like to be more confident
in how the original system is/isn't performing.

Hi Ian

I ran these for 10 years a while back and have forgotten the finer details, if there isn't an air bleed on the filter, loosen the outlet to the injection pump then try priming it and see if there is any fuel coming out. If there is fuel actually in the system you can check by slackening off a couple of injector pipes and turning the engine over, should leak out of the connections if there is fuel there. The easiest way is probably to squirt some easy start into the air intake, it should run on that but will stop again if here is no fuel.
