People ask me why I drive an old car!!!

Unread post by mickthemaverick »

This is one way of answering that question: :)

I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

This makes a good case for having a dash cam.

Our 2024 Octavia tries to keep within lanes but often sees lines in tarmac as a lane and I have to fight the steering wheel as it tries to move over. I also have to fight it if moving over without indicating. It has not yet done any braking on its own but often has the wrong speed limits.

I wonder what would happen if a line of identical cars went over a shadow which caused them to all brake hard. If they all had identical wear in tyres and brakes they should not crash into the back of each other but if not then a pile up could happen.

I would certainly prefer the BX to anything current.
Sent that video to my son he has a nightmare Cupra full of that sort of nonsense.

Kind of works here as it is only animation of the explanation. At least is wasn't voiced by a USAian. Although there are some odd pronunciations, "ASSFAULT" instead of asphalt.
I would much prefer to have a written account for anything like this though.

Yes I agree Steve. I am totally against the use of AI to generate information, but used as an editing aid ii's not really any different from using a spreadsheet to work out your calculations or a word processor to prepare documents.

It is a useful tool in that respect as long as it plays no part in generating the actual content. :)

It was on the news last night that a lot of the bombing being done in Iran is being planned/set up using AI to quickly gather all data and process it to get the targets. Some time ago on an old Star Trek episode a planet used computers to do its wars and rather than people on each side killing each other it came up with how many had to be killed by its own people. It can not be far off wars will all be done by computer, those in charge just push a switch and off it goes with drones doing it all.

It was also on the news that in China there was a power cut and more than 100 self driving driverless taxi cars stopped where they were. Maybe all the Chinese electric cars being sold here can be controlled from China. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cvge91r9j80o

Regarding using AI in a war setting, as an AI controlled war computer once deduced after a bit of thought and played-out war scenarios....... "the only winning move is not to play." 8-[

There was nothing artificial about that intelligence.
As I get older I think a lot about the hereafter - I go into a room and then wonder what I'm here after.

Inside every old person is a young person wondering what the hell happened.

Another video of the 'it would be better as a read it' type, but it further warrants my decision that entitles this thread!! :)
