Citroen C5 aircross 2019 1.5 diesel
I have recently purchased this vehicle and it has this weird issue with starting. It will be ok starting most times and after a good 8 hours being sat off the engine turns over but doesn't engage until about the third key turn. We have taken it to a garage and they have said the battery is healthy but at a charge of 49% and glow plugs are working and while they were testing it happened to them it quickly came up with an immobilizer fault. Has anyone had this issue it's very intermittent has anyone had this issue or have clue a what it could be?

By third key turn do you mean you turn the key but the starter is not working until you have turned the key 3 times ?
Is it the same with the spare key ? When it does not start straight away, leave the key in the ignition and open the driver's door before trying again - if it gives a warning the key has been left in then the key is being recognised but if not the immobiliser may not be recognising the key.
Was the garage a Citroen dealer, if not you might be best to use one and they can do a diagnostic check.

Well it sounds like the engine can start but it doesn't fire up usually by the third attempt it starts.
It does it with both keys but we haven't thought to tried to open the door while the ignition is on while its not Starting.
It was an independent garage as are closest Citroen garage is a good distance away.

Something else to try if it is turning over, turn the key so the dash lights up and wait a few more seconds for the glow plugs to work a bit longer before turning for the starter to spin.
Could also be the fuel is draining back - has the filter been replaced recently, are there any leaks around the filter connections ?

So it happened this morning and we opened the door while the key was in the ignition and it didn't recognise the Key we will try with the spare and see if it happens with that to.

If it has been Citroen dealer serviced and there is a fault with the cam shaft chain it should be covered by the extended 10 year warranty so no cost to you for repair at the Citroen dealer. If it is the timing belt then that is a different story.
