Automatic Wipers 3-Beeps

Hello,

My car is a Citroën C3 1.4 Petrol, model year 2002/2003.

I’m having an issue with my automatic wipers. As soon as I switch the wipers to AUTO mode, the car gives 3 beep sounds.

After that, the wipers start working at a fixed interval (around every 9–10 seconds) even when there is no rain at all. Other than the initial beeps, there are no additional warnings or sounds.

Has anyone experienced something similar?
Could this be caused by a faulty rain sensor, bad sensor gel, or a connection issue?

How old is the car battery?

Is the windscreen clean at the top if there is a rain sensor there ?

The car battery is at most 1 year old.

Yes, there is a rain sensor, and until some time ago (I don’t remember exactly when), this issue did not occur.

I need to understand what exactly triggers this warning from a technical perspective.

Because removing and fixing that area is quite difficult — it has a rather unusual rear-view mirror setup.

As a first step, try a BSI reset.
