Electrics doing strange things

Unread post by Bas54 »

Good evening
New here and this is my first post. Bit long winded but stay with me.
Washers didn’t work checked fuse replaced pump, still not working.
Called an electrician he started van and the indicator wouldn’t turn off. Turned off engine restarted and indicator went off washers now working, down side abs, traction control, hand brake warning light on, brake lights staying on and after market rear camera screen staying on.
Replaced under bonnet fuse box as per electrician no joy.
Called diagnostic guy. Said he couldn’t communicate with abs, abs removed took it to specialist and nothing wrong with it. Getting it put back on Saturday.
Diagnostic guy said Battery is shot so I replaced it.
Im best part of £500 in and still where I started and diagnostic guy won’t reply.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
I’ve just finished converting to a campervan and still haven’t been able to use it.
Thanks

Have you carried out a BSI reset, following the procedure in the link below, since you replaced the battery? :)

I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

Thanks for your input,
I’m waiting to get the Abs put back on then I will sort it, hopefully the mechanic can do diagnostics.

Update. Still at square one.
Abs back on.
Mechanics diagnostic saying can’t communicate with Abs, incompatible software, does that mean his tools aren’t compatible or the van can’t communicate with itself?
Do Citroen use special software.
If any one has any ideas I love to hear them as 3 different mechanics haven’t solved it.
Any recommendations for a competent mechanic that can sort this in or around Basildon
Thanks

What year Relay van is it?
As it's a common Stellantis model (badged Citroen but was also sold as Fiat/Peugeot etc) I wonder what diagnostic software should be used on it... Do you know what diagnostic scanner your mechanic was using, unsuccessfully?

It’s 2022, unfortunately I don’t know what system they were using, but have had two different diagnostics done by different people and both said they can’t communicate with Abs.

You are probably better off going to a Citroen dealer than trying auto electricians. If the abs pump has been removed it will need a diagnostic to bleed it properly so if others can not access the abs then you may have no choice other than to use a dealer. A dealer may appear to be more expensive to use but by using others it looks as if you have spent £500 and not got anywhere.

That’s what I’m beginning to think, the new battery I put on last week has gone flat so there must be a drain in the system somewhere, maybe I didn’t need a new one as diagnosed?I have turned off the camper 12v kill switch that was on just to be sure its not from that.

We had a caravan that drained the battery when not in use and it turned out the heater fan was set on auto so was running at a quiet low speed so not noticed. The alarm would also gradually drain it.

Booked in at my local Citroen dealer for diagnostics, soonest they can do is two weeks time, is this normal time scale with Citroen? lucky it’s my camper and not my work van.

Finally going in on Tuesday hopefully they will get it sorted, apparently 2 hours labour to bleed the abs, it took ten minutes to bleed the rest of the system.
I have found a small unattached plug under the brake pedal, is this an unused part of the loom or has it come off, I’ve had a good look but can’t see where it could possibly go. Thanks

2 hours seems a bit long, but in 2019 I paid £142 for the C5 to be bled with a diagnostic and included the fluid. Without the diagnostic I could not get all the air out after replacing a front brake caliper.

Just feels like they have you over a barrel. With out the diagnostics your buggered. And they can charge what they want.

Hope they get it sorted.
Parasitic drains can be a pain, but they're fairly easy to isolate to a particular circuit - then it's a matter of tracing through the circuit to find the cause (which needs a schematic...).
I'm not a million miles away, so if you have a continual problem with the parasitic drain and want a hand, give me a shout and I could probably assist.

Thanks
Hopefully the dealer will get it sorted today, but not holding my breath.
If the drain is on the camper side of the electrics should be straight forward to find, but can’t see it as it’s been on all the time.
