Hello everyone.
My name is Mark and I own a 2020 citroen c4 spacetourer 1.5 diesel blue, recently I took my car to a citroen specialist to enquire about having the cam chain upgrade from a 7mm to a 8mm chain, however to my surprise the mechanic after inspecting the cam cover said that my car has already had the upgrade to a 8mm chain stating that he could tell because the cover was a different shape to the cover if it were a 7mm .so my question is can anyone confirm that this is possible.
Cheers. Mark

There's a short discussion here viewtopic.php?p=816058 There are some photographs or drawings here but I haven't found them yet.

Re: Cam cover
Yeah, that's possible, and it's the easiest way to tell if the chain has been upgraded.

Re: Cam cover
Here's the difference between the 7mm and 8mm cam covers.

This came from https://gtautomotiveparts.co.uk/engine- ... ent-wrong/

- Cam housing with (a) engraved reference 9812647280 and flat housing design around the cam sprockets should contain the earlier 7mm pitch chain
- Cam housing with (a) engraved reference 9830580480 and (b) bumped housing design around the cam sprockets should contain the later 8mm pitch chain

Re: Cam cover
Hi. I have a customer with a 2021 Citroen Dispatch 1.5 BlueHDI. He does not know if the chain has been upgraded as it is an ex hire car and has no service history with it. But would like to know for peace of mind.
How much disassembly is involved to be able to get a good look at the cam cover to see if it has already been upgraded?
That said, it has 93k on the clock and runs very smoothly. I would expect to hear some noise from the engine if it hadn't been upgraded.
Any advice would be very helpful before I have a look at it myself. Thanks

Just look at the pictures and information in the post immediately above yours.Ulook92 wrote: 03 May 2026, 01:38 Hi. I have a customer with a 2021 Citroen Dispatch 1.5 BlueHDI. Re: Cam cover
Yeah that's great. First bit of info iv seen that actually helps. But is this all.visible without any disassembly? Might seem like a daft question, but I dont have the van with me to immediately check. I was trying to find out in advance.Paul-R wrote: 03 May 2026, 08:07Just look at the pictures and information in the post immediately above yours.Ulook92 wrote: 03 May 2026, 01:38 Hi. Re: Cam cover
I don't have a 1.5 Hdi engine in my 308 but I would imagine there would have to be some light removal of covers and the like. Nothing too onerous I would think. On my 1.6 there's a panel that surrounds the oil filler cap that simply clips into place requiring no tools at all to remove.

Re: Cam cover
This link includes a picture of the engine and it shows a cover that simply pulls off to see the cam cover so a 10 second job. https://www.wheels-alive.co.uk/citroen- ... road-test/

Re: Cam cover
That looks to be the same as on my 1.6.
