Re: Irresponsible people
I was thinking about the constant need for a camera. But my 12v socket (Ciggy lighter) is the same as many others, off when parked but on when driving. So I was toying with the idea of putting a 12v scooter battery in the glove box with a solar panel recharging it constantly. I'm no sparky but could it work?

Yes I ask the stupid questions, because normally it is that simple.

Re: Irresponsible people
Yes Ryan, that's a viable option but you need to remember to switch to car power when you are driving to allow the second battery to charge from your solar panel. Suitable control panels are used in camper vans to keep the leisure battery charged once the car battery is charged first after starting.

Re: Irresponsible people
Could I run it as a separate stand alone system so it's independent of the car? So just scooter battery, solar panel and camera?

Re: Irresponsible people
A few factors to consider Ryan.
Output of the solar panel, which of course can be very variable,
Battery capacity and drain of camera system.
Ideally, as Mick says, enable charging from the cars electrical system when the car is running.
A changeover relay with a bit of built in protection should cover that.
To avoid that and make it all simpler, take a look at a Road Angel camera.

Re: Irresponsible people
I am definitely not electricity minded or battery powered minded. Mechanical is more my thing. All this cross this to that in obd and then cross reference that against the voltage drop and then divide that by who gives a fk, puzzles me. My C8 is massively electronically controlled, so id rather not hinder the battery anymore. But I do need a good 360 camera as I park away from the sheep but they still dent my car!!!!!

I have 70mai x800-2 omni and 70mai m800-2. I bought also UP03 parking kit which allows recording during the parking time. I installed it directly to the fuse box. I am happy with them.Rp0thejester wrote: 06 Mar 2026, 22:09 I am definitely not electricity minded or battery powered minded. Mechanical is more my thing. By the way 90% I solved the scratch which I mentioned on my first post. It is visible just under the strong sunlight.

Re: Irresponsible people
Once again I don't understand any of that. What's worse is I park the car and stay in it, then they hit my car with their doors without realising I'm still in it because of the blacked out windows!!! And unfortunately it seems to be the 'older' generation that does it.

Perhaps the area where I live but have never been subject to that treatment.
