Pretty sure that's what I did, put the metal clip on, then push it onto the cable. Reading my words I got my pal to push the cable through from the engine side to give more inside to play with.
No idea about the tube....

That is what Jim "seems" to remember..........maybe I will have one last go before getting the accelerant and ignition source sorted...

Sadly Jim I am not able (on this job) to approach it with that level of confidence, not a "normal" situation for me however I will be giving it a good go before I accidentally drop any struck matches by mistake

OK, seems I am getting there.....I can work out where the spring sits on the peddle and that the inside arm goes on the lower part of the peddle "leg", but where does the other "tail" of the spring go/engage ??

Ah, bugger... At least it's just unbolt and remove, no need to disconnect the cable! In my linked thread I did mention the spring was the hard bit; no recollection of how / where it fits now though!

Re: Ball joint, gear linage and Clutch cable clip XANTIA 1.9td
Taken out and re-positioned now...
BUT
The bit that is confusing me is : The spring is there to depress the peddle not keep it raised ....is this correct ?
(hence why when the clip/plastic cable housing breaks the peddle goes to the floor as the cable (no clutch pressure) is not not pushing back on it ??)
Update:
On cable clutches the return spring holds the peddle to the floor and is fitted to the RIGHT side of the peddle (looking at it).
There is a little cut-out on the bulkhead bracket (oblong/right side, just below the hole for the cross bolt ) to accept that side of the spring. It can be pushed up into position with a screw driver blade, after that, attach to the peddle arm.

Re: Ball joint, gear linage and Clutch cable clip XANTIA 1.9td
I now have a clutch, the car comes out of gear etc...so I can move it of the road which has been a right pain in the Harris !
I just need to put all the bits back on and the seat in to finish (tomorrows job).
Thanks all form the help/links etc.....I would have fire bombed it otherwise

Well done Alasdair
Superb work! Yes, the little pedal spring goes in what seems an illogical manner. It's function being to keep a little tension in the cable to stop it rattling!
Sorry I initially gave you duff advice on that - I was half-way to hospital with Steph at the time and my thoughts were off the cuff and thinking logically. Should have known better - it's French after all...

Well it managed to move off the road and up my drive, so I think it works....
Now to bolt and screw all the bits and seat back in...OHHH, and clean the carpet under the seat (and the seat runners etc !!!) YUK+1 !

An ideal opportunity! It's amazing just how much crud gathers around those inaccessible places over the years

All back together, clutch adjusted (back to where it was)......Tick, Job done
So I cleaned the loan car ready to go back to its owner........it needed it, the owner is not a great fan of washing cars.
