Help request – Timing timing / VVT pulley preload Peugeot 207 THP 150 (EP6DT)

Hello everyone,

I am in the process of replacing the timing chain on my Peugeot 207 1.6 THP 150hp (EP6DT), engine identical to the N14 Mini.

I used the shimming tools to lock the camshafts and crankshaft. Everything seems well aligned mechanically. Before the change, the car started perfectly.

But after replacing the chain, the car no longer starts, and DiagBox displays a message:

Inconsistency between camshaft sensor and crankshaft sensor

No other engine faults are present.

❓ My main question is:

Should the inlet phase variator pulley (VVT) be preloaded before tightening?
Some say you have to turn the pulley to the right (clockwise) to tension it, but I can't find any clear tutorial with photos or video for this operation.

🔧 I am looking for:

Precise explanations (with angle or tightening method)

Photos or videos showing how to preload this VVT pulley

Feedback on this engine (EP6DT or N14 THP)

Thank you in advance for your valuable help 🙏
Have a good evening everyone!

The vvt sprocket orientation with respect to the 4 oil supply holes in the end of the camshaft is random according to several Mini official documents. You will come across sites that would have you align the holes but there is no obvious functional reason for this, given that there are open chambers when the unit is bolted to the camshaft.
What you do need to check is that the vvt sprocket is in the locked position. You should be able to find references to this in workshop manuals or perhaps online.
I suspect your starting problems are not timing related

Hello good people,
I purchased the "famous" 1.6 thp 150 EP6DT hp engine from 2010, I want to start changing its timing kit and I understand that between the sprockets on the crankshaft and behind the VVT intake and exhaust sprockets they put some fine diamond washers to prevent them from slipping under high load, does anyone have the codes for these washers because I can't find them.
Thank you in advance
