Location of MAP sensor on EP6C in C4 B7

Unread post by Daibach »

Hi All, Is this an easy change part or is it best left to my local garage? I believe the part no. is 1920RX, and so far " expert" advice has told me it is located on the right hand side of the engine viewed from the front of the car, or under the throttle body, which I believe is on the left side of the engine. So, I thought I would ask those who know rather than those who think they know!! Reason for the change is sudden poor fuel consumption, sluggish acceleration & occasional stalling. A diagnostic check came up with intermittant fault, which might explain the totally random trip computer display. Thanks everyone & Happy New Year to all.

I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

Thanks for that info Mick. I note that on the Mini they refer to a MAF sensor, rather that MAP. I am told that EP6C has a MAP sensor, once again i am relying on Mr. Google & the wonderful world of AI for the info. Interestingly, the car got a new MOT yesterday, so presumably it's not pumping out black smoke or similar. I have used about 1/2 tank of fuel in just under 180miles, which is not good. I'm also thinking taking off air filter housing, throttle body, etc might mean the job would be best left to the garage.

MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensors are located between the air filter and the throttle body and measure the volume of air entering the engine.
MAP sensors are located in the inlet manifold or plenum, after the throttle body, and measure vacuum.
HOWEVER, the EP6 has a bizarre arrangement that varies the lift of the inlet valves to vary the amount of air going into the engine! While there is a throttle body in the inlet manifold, it's only a "standby" arrangement. This means that there is no vacuum generated in the inlet manifold (as a "normal" engine would LOL)! And why the engine has a separate vacuum pump!
So, I don't think it would have a MAP sensor.
IIRC the inlet manifold and standby throttle body are on the back of the engine and more or less on the driver's side (RHD). The MAF sensor would be between the air filter and the standby throttle body.
