Dispatch DPF issues

Unread post by bengb »

I have just bought a 2021 Dispatch, it is the 1.5 blue model with 12,000 miles.

Yesterday I test drove the van for a considerable amount of time and had no issues, drove it home from Bristol to Coventry with no issues, today I just took it to a job a few miles away and I heard a beep along with dash light and message saying risk of particle filter blocking, I did a bit of searching online and the main thing was to take it for a long drive, I did this and it went away.

I have got home and looked through the paperwork and found a piece of paper from a garage showing that at 10k miles it has had the filter out, regeneration, and replaced, along with the NOX sensors.

I am worried that I have bought a lemon as the main thing I have seen are people saying this has happened when the vehicle has done quite a few miles, not 12k.

Should I be worried and send the van back as I only purchased it yesterday, or is this normal?

I had a MK2 Peugeot Expert nearing 100k previously and not once had a DPF issue.

It drives fine, even when the light came on, it didn't go into limp mode or anything.

I'm just worried the dealership knows something was wrong and they have just cleared any codes.

I really appreciate any advice, please.

There should be at least one, maybe two MOT records. What mileage is shown on it/them?

Two MOT's 26th March 2024 and 26th March 2025, both pass no issues noted, only issue showing is a safety recall for something, doesn't say what it is, though.

Sounds like the mileage should be genuine. It hasn't done much though when you think about it.

What exactly does the garage paperwork say? My best guess is that the vehicle has spent its life being driven gently and has never been up to a decent speed for long enough for a regeneration to take place and that led to a blocked DPF.

Due to possible cam shaft chain problems you need to make sure the van has been dealer serviced on time each year and to carry on with this so you will benefit from the extended warranty which looks to be 10 years or 100k miles. If not already done, you should check with the dealer to confirm this warranty will apply to you. When we had our dealer listen to our 1.5 hdi engine a year ago they said it was mainly vans that had problems due to a hard life.

Thank you for the replies.

I am hoping it's just the van has been sat for a while and needed driving, could this be possible?

The van itself I would say has been cared for, it is like new and seems well cared for.

I did give it a good test drive and it was fine then, drove all the way back down the motorway for over two hours and it was fine.

There are no service stamps in the book, however.

I have checked the paperwork, there is a printed off sheet that says work history, the last one is 6th August 2024

Engine management fault diagnosis - check
Engine management - read fault codes
Oil lubrication - remove & refit engine oil
All exhaust components - remove & refit diesel particulate filter
Exhaust gas analysis - repair, regeneration of particulate filters.

There's another from December 2023 that says fault diagnosis - check
Engine management - read fault codes
Oil lubrication- replaced oil

Another from April 2023 that says manufacturer service, but they haven't stamped the book.

I just did a couple of short trips from one shop to another and it didn't do the fault.

I am just paranoid spending so much money and getting a lemon.

It is common for vehicles which have been on lease not to have their service books kept up to date. The leasing company keeps the computer record of work done for there own benefit in the event of possible warranty claims but the books are often held at the leasing company and only returned to the vehicle when it comes off fleet and is sold. :)

I wouldn't be worried at all. Sounds iffy having the dpf being played with at 10k but as it was a lease vehicle a rev limiter/speed restrictor might of been fitted by the hirer if on long term lease.Which would explain the early dpf issue. Risk of blockage is literally just that, Risk of..... It means stop driving like miss daisy and rag it with late gear changes. I would check to see if the driver's side whole mirror has been replaced because on some vans they are fitted with an outside temperature gauge that controls the regeneration.

Thank you, I'll try running the van for a few days, if it plays up anymore I'll let the dealership know and either get it fixed or swap it for a different van.

If the last service was 6th August 2024 then if it is a 12 month service interval (as our 308) then it needed one 2 weeks ago and if not done it may have voided any warranty extension.

Did you resolve your issues? I’m looking for anyone that has had problems with their dispatch whether it’s DPF, AdBlue or engine failure

Update*
I had the DPF cleaned from an RAC approved garage who said it was totally clogged which seemed to do the trick, the DPF blocked warning light has flashed up a couple of times but I just took the van for a longer blast and seemed to do the trick.
I don't know if it's because my old Peugeot Expert van was quite fast (2.0 ATV 130) but this van seems sluggish, it revs all the way up as it should but it just feels really slow and dangerous when overtaking. I think I am just going to sell this one and get a quicker van as it's painfully slow and dangerous when trying to pull out of junctions etc. I put my foot down and it feels like it's hardly accelerating. I guess being a 1.5 in a medium sized van isn't enough power for it.
