C5X7 double problems today

I knew things had been going too well with the C5. Coming home this evening I found that the gearbox does not change to top (6th) on the motorway and hangs in 5th. I found that moving the gearstick to the manual setting and manually notching up to 6th it goes up and stays. If you then move it back to auto it stays in 6th and changes down when appropriate. Next time it was expected to change up to 6th it repeated the same problem.

Not had a chance to connect lexia to it to see if any faults appear. I will see how it is tomorrow after an overnight.

Anyone experienced this before?

Next issue! rear tyres are seriously worn on the inner edge. I think it's caused by the rear wheels having too much camber. You can see the excess camber as it resembles the old Citroens with trailing arm taper roller bearings that fail. I think I found old posts one here talking about the failure of the rubber bushings at the rear multi arms. Looking at the various bolts that would have to come off it looks daunting. I doubt the bolts will come out of the alloy subframe without witchcraft. But when i get new tyres they will not last long with this camber problem. Any thoughts?

My last C5 developed a reluctance to change up under its own steam but it corrected itself after I changed the ATF, may be worth a try?

Hi Mick, thanks for the reply! I did change the fluid about 2 years ago in the standard 'change it 3 times over a hundred miles, 3l at a time' method. I noticed an improvement in the jerky change from 3-4th. But surely not needed again? Might do it though as an option. I was searching back in the forum history and is might be possible that the auto adaptive aspect has a dislike for incorrect or wrongly-inflated tyres... and as is the other part of my problem, I have a pair of knackered tyres. Booked to get changed tomorrow. Although these are rears, I wonder if the gearbox takes the rear tyres' info in addition to the fronts?

This morning it would not change up from 4th! Changed up 5th and 6th manually. Changed down automatically to 5th and then actually did change up to 6th automatically but after a longer wait. It seems that it is working but something has caused the threshold to change.

When you changed the oil two years ago, did you use a diagnostic machine to tell the system that new oil had been fitted?

Hi Paul, I didn't do that. Don't have diagbox. Not sure the bootlegged lexia can do that but will look into it.

Does this cause issues long term?

In a way. It means that system doesn't know that new oil is fitted and hence is applying the old oil's parameters to the new oil.

If you truly mean Lexia, as opposed to Diiagbox, then my experience is that Lexia doesn't work on the C5 X7. But maybe being a 2008 model it may just cover your car.

Hi Paul, yes it works on mine and can give live data. I've never looked at the gearbox data in depth before as it has given no trouble so far. Will check later this evening, if it doesn't have the capability I'll have to take it to the Peugeot guy near me. He works on citroens etc too

I think this is a a problem with the car thinking it's in a skid, I had similar issue, especially when coming of a roundabout, it turned out to be one of the tyres had a rolling diameter of a 5-10mm smaller than the other on the same axle (in my case the rear). Run a fexible tape (dressmakers ideal) around the circumference of the tyre where it contacts the road, in your case probably where you are seeing alot of wear, then divide this measurement by 3.142 to get the diameter, then compare this with the other side.

My issue was due to different makes of tyre.

Good luck, sorry can't help with suspension geometery adjustment, that would be a visit to somewhere like Kwik-fit for a 4-wheel alignment check.

Hi Stu, good to hear from you, you've nailed it -it has actually cured itself now. Yesterday I got 2 tyres fitted as the wonky back wheel camber has caused the inner edge to wear right dien to almost the threads. The outer and middle have lots of tread left - that's why I didn't shot it right away.... honest officer

It's functioning well now.

Speaking of kwikfit, that's where I got tyres and they said the alignment is so bad the gauge can't read it...

I looked again when I got back yesterday, rear wheel off and there are a lot of rubber bushings... I think the bad camber is the sum of all of them wearing. But the worst is the bush at each end of the lower adjustable rod - I can physically move the wheel and this rod looks slack so that's certainly the first one to look at.

Hi Richard, I rejoined FB for the marketplace! I will have a look for that group. I have a Windows 10 laptop available that might work? Have an even older Windows 8.1 laptop that runs the lexia but that's about 11 years old now. It's my parents that live in Carluke , I'm over in South Glasgow between Barrhead and Newton Mearns but I'm over in Carluke often.

It would be particularly useful if you could say what version of Lexia software you have (I still think you have Diagbox BTW) and whether the hardware is full chip or not.

Paul is definitely lexia I have because it the interface is a lexia 3 and the application comes up with the lexia logo. It had the appearance of a user interface you would see on a stand alone diagnostic unit in an old Citroen service workshop. It covers models up to C5x7 & C6 but no later.

OK, it must be a very late Lexia version. My old Lexia wouldn't do my 2013 C5 X7 which prompted me to get Diagbox. Are you comfortable with being added to the list of members offering their services to other members?
