PaulC5 wrote: 07 Jan 2026, 12:15 £30 seems a bit cheap for a head unit if it is also the radio. Our 308 2019 needed a new radio since the touchscreen was not working, it was about £1300 for the part plus another £200 to fit and programme including the latest maps.
Ah, that is the beauty of second hand tat on eBay! :-D

It's not the radio (there's a separate single DIN sized box that runs the radio) this is a separate unit that is just a CD drive, plugs into the radio unit and should let me play CDs.

Marc kindly confirmed the price of the CD drive from the dealer (will dig it out from further up this thread, about £200 from memory) plus the cable to link the two (about £90 from memory)

I managed to find a new cable on eBay for about £30, and am hunting down the CD drive.

I've also managed to grab a second hand fascia (which differs only in that it has a slot and a disk ejection button)

I'm hoping a Diagbox amateur (i.e. me!) can bumble my way through the menus and convince the radio and CD drive to talk to one another

Fascia £19 delivered!
https://frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/view ... 36#p828836

Cable:
New from dealer would be:
CD Harness for SMEG units, part: 6571QY, £78.13

But pounced on when spotted on eBay: £19.59
https://frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/view ... 62#p829062

The drive:
New is £185 apparently,
Originally I bought a second hand drive, a "Prototype stage D11"
https://frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/view ... 63#p829063
For £36,
As it turned out this was damaged (in transit?) - I got the loose bit reinstated but haven't managed to get it to perform.
Seller almost immediately gave me a full refund

Re-reviewing all the good info from Marc, I'm now on the hunt for a D10
:)

Drive delivered (or a box has arrived anyway!)

Blue 308 currently at the MOT station, half a mile from home so have strolled back rather than pace the waiting room like an expectant father :-D

I can confirm trying to give the car a very quick wash (as it was pretty filthy, not very nice for the MOT folks to be handling it like that) when it was -1°C was not a great idea!

Well worth the cold hand car wash for the pass result 👌

Yep, well pleased!

Next week: off for it's recall.

Tomorrow, weather dependent, I might put the CD drive in too

Excellent :D Congrats on the MoT pass Matt

I agree about taking a clean car to the MoT. If nothing else, it looks like you care :)

And fingers crossed the CD player works [-o<

Thanks Jim,
And yes, it does doesn't it! :)

Thanks, the weather is wet and windy and so feels worse than the balmy 6°C we are apparently enjoying, but I've made a start on the CD swap.

A few pictures to follow and a bit of a write up later on.

Jolly berk at play.

First find the centre console, ah there it is:

Loosen those two.

Put driver's seat both fully forward and raise up fully, prise off the cap and undo another 10mm bolt.

Easily undone with a ring spanner. No sign of thread lock on the threads either (has some now!)
