Peugeot 206 instrument panel alarm stop light is wrong

Why does the alarm STOP light, on the dashboard, flash on a Peugeot 206 1998 1.1, if there is no fault that causes this light to come on? This flashing is usually associated with the temperature indicator, which rises to red, (for no reason), and this lasts for half a minute to a minute, and when the temperature indicator begins to drop sharply to normal, at that moment the STOP alarm also goes out...

Possibly the sensor is faulty if the behaviour is always the same. If it is more irratic you might have a damaged wire touching the metal of the car.

If it is always when the car is heating up your thermostat might be on its way out and open too late.

This can be indicative that the low speed fan is not working - it probably cools down when the high speed fan comes on.
