Re: lds fluid
In a word, yes it can do or absorb moisture . I always changed mine every 80000 miles or 4 years depending on which came first.

Re: lds fluid
LHM fluid used in older Citroens is a green colour so possibly some of that has been used in the past.

Re: lds fluid
As it is both Old & Discoloured, I would just drain the system and refill with new.
It is not uncommon that parts of the system do not get much "exchange/flow".........from what I understand, it does little damage (short term) to have LHM in a LDS system but LDS in an LHM system is a no no.
Before you drain the system, hold the brake peddle down (a foot or a stick
) then go to each wheel and drain a good amount out from each caliper, this will get old LDS/LHM mixed oils (if that has happened) out of the "dead ends" where there is normally very little return.
ALWAYS USE AXLE STANDS....Citroen's can kill you if they decide to drop when I/you/we do something stupid or the car decides to by itself

On the C5 the brakes are not connected to the suspension fluid so these can be left alone.

And the brakes of course use DOT4 or DOT5.1.PaulC5 wrote: 17 Dec 2025, 22:33

I don't think that LDS is hygroscopic, so unless contaminated, it should not need changing (but it shouldn't be green).

Re: lds fluid
I have used green LDS. A long suspension pipe ruptured and left the C5 on it's knees. Had to buy LDS from the nearest source, unfortunately Halfords, and it was Comma LDS which is green. It was only in for a very short time, enough to get the car on a beavertail and to the garage.xantia_v6 wrote: 17 Dec 2025, 23:33And the brakes of course use DOT4 or DOT5.1.PaulC5 wrote: 17 Dec 2025, 22:33

Citroenmad also bought a C5 with green LDS or possibly LHM and observed that it foamed quite a lot. He did drain it of course and fill with the proper vintage.
