My friend unfortutately seems to have had a major engine failure on her 1.6hdi (DV6C 9HR ~120k)
Loud knocking from the bottom end.
I suspect it may have had dpf delete- tailpipe sooty.
Any ideas about the cause or how to avoid same happening with my 1.6hdi engine with similar mileage?

Re: 1.6hdi Engine failure
recent history on car include leaking injector seals - a 'mushroomed' injector tip (#4) had to visit garage for that but other stuff was botched - sawn off injector bolts which involved leaking seals again and a fuel pressure breakdown from missing screw on fuel filter housing. now i prefer to do stuff myself..
managed to get her an emergency replacement -a high mileage well cared for looking Golf 2.0Tdi from 2008- fingers crossed

There's a lot there to sort. Much as I hate to say it, if the Golf is a good one I would stay with that. Time to get shut of the C4 GP (I'm presuming it's the one in your information on the left)?

Re: 1.6hdi Engine failure
have recently had injector failure on my C4 (common issue on that engine it seems) so will be extracting the old ones from car before scrap.. anything else of use i wonder..
i'm hoping the older 2.0 Tdi 140 ps engine will be more reliable for her- no dpf for starters? much depends on maintenance historyi guess..

Re: 1.6hdi Engine failure
i managed to read the injector contributions as i thought it maybe extreme diesel knock. #1, 2, 4 all around 0.6, #3 about 1.7. nearly out of range?
