My neighbour forwarded this to me saying "It looks like Mercedes have some work to do."
Interesting.

Re: Interesting.
I'm at risk of being labelled a stick in the mud here, but I believe that driving should be 100% the responsibility of the driver and thus there is no argument about who is at fault when things go wrong. I have no problem with the vehicle being equipped with safety aids as long as the driver has total control of whether they are activated or not, and preferably stored in the car's memory for each driver as seat settings can be. Thus you don't have to waste time going through the menus and turning off the things you don't want every time you get in the car, a procedure that really bugs all the people I know who have such systems!!
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

Re: Interesting.
I think the only way things will change with the AEB causing accidents is if such accidents are logged by the insurance companies as being caused by - what is effectively - a manufacturing defect in the AEB system. If they can then build up enough statistical evidence to show how much it's costing them, then they might be able to put pressure on the car manufacturers to improve the AEB system.
As I've said before - if any other component in a car was causing such unpredictable crashes and accidents, then it'd be subject to a recall and rectification program.

.......
I seem to remember, Mercedes had a problem with brake assist and few years ago, the problem was drivers were "tapping" the brakes to flash the brake lights at the car behind to indicate, either, I'm slowing or get off my bumper
), but the car sensed this as an emergency and applied full braking power, which resulted is said car getting rear ended!

Re: Interesting.
We have a relative who was involved in an accident driving a Mini accelerating on a slip road and the engine cut out. The van behind swerved and the cars behind that swerved but went in to the van - all probably too close but not expecting the mini to slow. Later on it was thought the ignition start/stop button, which is a nice attractive red one in the middle of the dash, may have been pressed by a child in the mini. A later check when on a quiet road and pressing the button stopped the engine so something might be wrong with the car. Searches have shown on some people's Mini cars using the red button can stop the engine whilst moving but not all.

Re: Interesting.
Mine's one with a stop/start button, somewhat hidden so I often go to stop it with the key (that is in my pocket)
Last week I went shopping, when I returned to the car the engine was running, it is very quiet, especially for a diesel and I think that I had 'stopped' it with the aircon button that is much easier to see and conveniently placed.
Was also wondering about glow plugs in the coming winter although the C5s just started like petrol cars but had the option to hold the key in the 'services' position to see if it needed glowplugging.
Found that if I press the start button twice without my foot on the clutch it will show all the info/warning lights and the glow plug light did show albeit very briefly.
Had to give it an extensive blast down the motorway, lots of dire warnings, end of the world stuff. Just the battery low with too many short runs in the dark.
